FAIRFAX, VA--Old Dominion University senior righthander Ryan Bergh tossed a complete
game four-hitter as the Monarchs defeated George Mason, 3-1 Sunday afternoon.
ODU is now 15-12 overall and 7-5 in the CAA, while the Patriots are 12-14 overall and
7-4 in the CAA.
This was Bergh's second straight complete game victory. He held the Patriots hitless
until the fifth when Ryan Soars doubled with one out. The Patriots only run came in
the sixth when Chris Henderson's groundout plated Ryan Uphouse. Berghwalked no one, and fanned four. Bergh has lowered his ERA to 2.89 overall.
ODU took a 1-0 lead in the third when Chris Keenan's ground out scored Chris Buss.
The Monarchs scored two unearned runs in the sixth as Miles scored on a throwing error and Keenan came home on Anthony Shawler's groundout.
Anthony Shawler's hitting streak is now at 19 games, while Jimmy Miles has a 10-game hitting streak.
ODU returns to action Tuesday night at Harbor Park when they play the Norfolk
Tides in the annual Bank of the Commonwealth scholarship game. Game time is
7:15 p.m.
