FAIRFAX, VA--George Mason (12-13/7-3) reliever Ryan Brecko pitched six-plus innings of shutout relief as the Patriots defeated Old Dominion (14-12/6-5), 10-5Saturday afternoon.
All but two of the 15 runs scored by both teams came in the first three innings.ODU took a 1-0 lead when Bryan Cipolla singled home Jimmy Miles.
Mason took a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the first but, ODU came back with three in thesecond inning to tie the game at four. Jimmy Miles' bases loaded single plated JakeMcAloose and Chris Buss, then Max Most came home on a Patriot throwing error.
ODU's fifth and final run came in the third when Jake McAloose singled homeAnthony Shawler who led the inning off with a double.
Brecko came on in relief in the third and got the final two outs with ODU runners on first and second. He allowed only three hits with one walk the rest of the way for George Mason and improved his record to 3-0.
Brent Weiss led the Patriots with three hits and three runs batted in, while ChrisHenderson and Justin Bour each knocked in a pair of runs.
Anthony Shawler, Bryan Cipolla and Jake McAloose each had two hits forODU. Jimmy Miles stole his CAA leading 20th base in the first inning. Shawler (3-2) took the loss as he fanned seven with eight hits in seven innings of work
The two teams play the third and final game of the league series Sunday at 1:00 atthe Raymond Spuhler field.
