FARMVILLE, VA-- Old Dominion University freshman lefthander Kyle Hald(Springfield, VA) pitched a complete game, scattering 12 hits with no walks and six strikeouts as the Monarchs defeated Longwood, 8-3.The Monarchs improve to 13-10 overall, while Longwood is 14-9.
The win was ODU's third straight and second straight complete game.Hald is now 3-0 on the season, with a 3.55 ERA.
Trailing, 3-0 in the sixth Jake McAloose singled home Anthony Shawler andlater sophomore catcher Joe Velleggia doubled home McAloose and David Burns.
In the eighth inning, Velleggia scored on a wild pitch, Jimmy Miles camehome on an error and Shawler singled home Max Most to give ODU a 7-2 lead.
David Burns, Jake McAloose, and Joe Velleggia each had two hits on the day for ODU. McAloose also scored twice for the Monarchs. Senior JimmyMiles stole his CAA leading 18th base.
Longwood was led by Scott Kimble and Phil Cerreto who each got three hits.Kimble, Brant jones and Paul Heidler each knocked in a run for the Lancers.
ODU returns to action Wednesday when they travel crosstown to play atNorfolk State. Gametime is 6 p.m.
