W&M Defeats ODU, 13-12 With Three In Bottom of Ninth

WILLIAMSBURG, VA--Ben Guez singled home Jeff Wera in the bottom of the ninthwith one out to give the Tribe of William and Mary (14-4/6-2) a 13-12 come-from behind win over Old Dominion (10-6/3-2) Saturday at Plumeri Park.

The Tribe took a 10-8 lead into the top of the ninth. ODU rallied for four runs on asacrifice fly by Jimmy Miles, a bases loaded walk by David Burns which platedGerard Hall to tie the game at 10. Anthony Shawler then singled in Bryan Cipolla andMax Most to give ODU the lead at 12-10.

In the bottom of the ninth, W&M loaded the bases on singles by Rob Nickle and JeremyMaliniak.. After Derrick Osteen was hit with a pitch, Jeff Wera walked to force homeNickle , James Williamson then walked to force home Maliniak to tie the game at 12. With one out Guez singled between first and second for the game winner.

ODU was led by Anthony Shawler who was four-for-four with six RBI and two homers.His solo shot in the top of the seventh gave ODU an 8-7 lead. On the mound, Shawlergave up seven runs with four walks and four strikeouts. David Burns knocked in three runs, Bryan Cipolla knocked in two for ODU.

Jimmy Miles, Max Most, Cipolla, Shawler and Gerard Hall each scored twice on theday for ODU. Hall, a sophomore playing second base in the place of Chris Keenan who injured his foot Friday walked three times.

William and Mary was led by Ben Guez with three hits and four RBI, while TylerStampone and Rob Nickle each knocked in two runs each. The third and final gameOf the series is Sunday at 1 p.m.
