NORFOLK, Va. -- The forecasted 90% chance of rain held off for all but a few minutes of game time giving the Lady Monarchs time to win their third straight game to start the 2008 season. ODU (3-0) dropped UMBC (2-4) by a score of 9-5 at home on Saturday as the Lady Monarchs added a 19th win in 20 all-time games against the Retrievers. Senior Kelly Kimener led the way for ODU with five points.

ODU controlled the game from the opening draw, scoring six of the first seven goals. Kimener opened the game with an unassisted score in the third minute of play for her fourth goal of the season. She'd have a hat trick by the end of the day and add two assists.

The Lady Monarchs scored nine times in the game with four different players entering their names into the scorebook. Junior Jessica Noone added three goals to take over the team lead with seven on the season. Seniors Sigrid Paulus and Kaelyn Schival added two and one goal respectively.

The defensive line of Lindsey Belle, Jordan McKeon and Erica Erb silenced the Retriever attack for much of the game. They only allowed 11 total shots in the game and two of the UMBC goals came with under four minutes left in the game.

In goal, senior Sara Larson improved to 3-0 with five goals allowed and eight saves in the game. She also denied three free-position shots from the Retrievers.

UMBC leader in scoring Ali Levendusky continued to be a premier scorer for the Retrievers, as she found the net for three of the five UMBC goals. All three were unassisted scores. Kelly Burgoyne and Carrie Paris both also scored unassisted goals for UMBC.

Old Dominion is off for over two weeks with their next game scheduled for March 24 against Rutgers. Game time at Foreman Field is set for 3:00 pm.
