ECU Defeats Monarchs, 20-13 in 10 Innings

NORFOLK, VA--East Carolina (4-4) scored seven runs in the top of the tenth inningto defeat the Monarchs of Old Dominion (4-4) Tuesday night, 20-13.

The Monarchs scored three runs in the seventh to take a 13-12 lead after Chris Keenanhomered, followed by Max Most's single which plated Jimmy Miles and David Burns followed with a single to send home Most.

ECU tied the game in the top of the ninth with two outs as Dustin Harrington singledhome pinchrunner Trent Ashcraft. ODU put their first two batters on in the bottom of the ninth, but could not score.

In the top to the tenth ECU got back-to-back singles from Ryan Wood and Stephen Batts.Kyle Roller then walked to load the bases with no outs. Dexter Carter came on in reliefoff David Wagner. Henderson was hit with a pitch to force in the first run, and after a couple of walks scored two more runs, and an error forced in a run, Harrison Eldridge hit an apparent grand slam homer. But, he passed the base runner in front of him and was called out, settling for a three-run single.

ECU had 19 hits on the night led by Eldridge who had four along with six runsbatted in. Ryan Wood, Stephen Batts and Dustin Harrington each had three hits and Corey Kemp knocked in five runs.

The Monarchs pounded out 13 hits, led by David Burns with four and seven RBI. MaxMost and Bryan Cipolla each had three hits on the night.

ODU travels to Lynchburg to take on Liberty Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.
