Northeastern Defeats ODU, 67-60

BOSTON, MA-- Matt Janning scored 20 points to lead the Huskies of Northeastern to a 67-60 decision over ODU. Senior Abdi Lidonde led theMonarchs with 16 points and freshman Ben Finneyadded 12.

ODU shot .500 (15-30) from the floor in the first half, whileNortheastern was 14-25 (.560). In the second half, ODU shot .265(9-34)from the floor, and NU was .238(5-21). ODU was 3-9 from the freethrow line in the second half, while the Huskies went to the line 22times, hitting 20.

ODU tied the game at 50 with 8:22 left on a trey by Brian Henderson.Matt janning then hit two free throws at the 8:10 mark to put NUup for good at 52-50. Northeastern proceeded to knock down nine freethrows in the last three minutes to seal the game. Chaisson hit fourfree throws during that stretch.

Lidonde was 6-for-10 from the field, 4-for-7 from three on the nightfor the Monarchs. Gerald Lee and Jonathan Adams led ODU with sixrebounds each, while Brandon Johnson dished out five assists and cameup with three steals. Darius also came up with three steals for ODU.NU had 13 turnovers, while ODU committed only six.

Northeastern outrebounded ODU, 40-31. Manny Adako scored 16 and hauleddown eight rebounds for Northeastern. Nkem Ojougboh also grabbed eightboards and Chaisson Allen seven.

The contest was played at the storied Matthews Arena which was the siteof the first Boston Celtics game and their secondary home court from1946-54

ODU returns to action on Saturday when they host George Mason at4 p.m. in the Ted Constant Convocation Center. The game will be televised live on ComCAst sportsnet, channel 35 in Hampton Roads.
