NORFOLK, VA--Old Dominion University freshman forward Ben Finneyscored a career high 20 points along with six rebounds to lead the Monarchs(17-13/11-6) to a 70-58 victory over Northeastern (12-16/8-9) Wednesday night.
Northeastern led by six, 33-27 at halftime and by as many as eight, 41-33 with 16:20left in the game. ODU went on a 10-2 run sparked by six points from Gerald Lee anda game tying trey by senior Brian Henderson with 12:36 left (43-43).
ODU took the lead for good at the 10:02 mark on a basket by Jonathan Adamsto make it 47-45. Ben Finney's trey with 7:10 left put the Monarchs up 55-47With 7:10 left. ODU eventually built the lead to 14 at 64-50 after Finney stolethe ball, dunked it on the break, and then hit a free throw.
Gerald Lee scored 12 points and hauled down a career high tying 12 rebounds.Brandon Johnson scored 12 points, dished out four assists and came up with threemore steals to give him 229 for his career. Johnson now ranks fourth all-timein CAA history and second all-time in ODU history. His 82 steals this seasonis third best in CAA single season history.
Northeastern was led by Matt Janning with 14 points, followed by Nkem Ojougboh, Chaisson Allen and Eugene Spates with 11 points each.
ODU shot .475 (28-59) from the floor for the game, but .567 (17-30) in thesecond half. Northeastern was held to .364 (20-55) for the game. The Monarchsalso outrebounded the Huskies, 38-32.
ODU has now won six straight games and are tied with UNCW for thirdplace in the CAA.
