The ODU Monarchs Gerald Lee scored 15 points and freshman DariusJames added 12 to lead ODU to a 72-59 victory over the Tribeof William and Mary Saturday night at Kaplan Arena. The Monarchswere a perfect 17-17 from the free throw line.
William and Mary led, 37-36 at halftime thanks to.538 (14-26)shooting along with 7-15 (.467) from three-point range.
In the second half, ODU took the lead for good with 12:05 left ontwo Gerald Lee free throws. After Abdi Lidonde and Jonathan Adamshit two free-throws, ODU was up six, 51-45.
Down the stretch, Brian Henderson nailed a trey and Gerald Leehit one as well to give ODU a 57-47 lead with 5:31 left. The Tribecould get no closer than seven at 3:50 (59-52) and 3:12 (61-54).Darius James scored nine points in the last 3:00 minutes to pushthe lead to 12 and ending the Monarchs two-game losing streak.
Brian Henderson scored 11 and freshman Frank Hassell added ten withsix boards. Ben Finney also hauled down six boards to go alongwith his eight points.
ODU dominated the boards at 43-24 and finished the game shooting.407 (24-5) from the floor, while the Tribe shot .415 (22-53).William and Mary shot .296(8-27) int he second half, and ODU was11-22 (.500).
In all, ODU's defense held the Tribe scoreless for 7:25 of thesecond half. The Tribe was led by Laimis Kisielius with 26 points. He was 5-10 from beyond the arc and 9-16 from the floor. Danny Sumner added13,but only scored two in the second half.
The 17-17 free throw shooting tied the school mark which was setin 2005 against Richmond as the Monarchs were 22-22.
ODU returns to action Wednesday night when they host the Seahawkof UNCW who defeated George Mason tonight.
