ABOUT THE LADY MONARCHS:The No. 13/18 Lady Monarchs are winners in their last nine contests and in 12 of their last 13 games and are about to finish a three-game road swing Sunday afternoon at Delaware. Old Dominion is coming off an 85-51 route of Northeastern at Solomon Court on Thursday night. Sophomore Jessica Canady came off the bench to net a career-high 28 points, which included 22 first half points along with a string of 14 consecutive points. Senior T.J. Jordan continues to lead the squad at 11.2 points per game. Senior Megan Pym continues leads the Lady Monarchs on the battle of the boards at 7.4 rebounds per game.
ABOUT DELAWARE:The Fightin' Blue Hen are 4-13 overall and 3-3 in Colonial Athletic Association action. Delaware has put together back-to-back wins for the first time this season coming off a 67-54 win at home against Northeastern and a 71-57 victory at Georgia State Thursday night. The Blue Hens opened the season with a win in the Preseason WNIT against common non-conference opponent, Delaware State, however proceeded to drop their next 11 games. The losing streak was stopped in Delaware's other CAA victory this season, a 64-49 win over George Mason. Delaware is led by senior guard and William & Mary transfer Kyle Dehaven. Dehaven leads the Blue Hens with 11.8 points per game and 5.4 rebounds per outing.

SERIES WITH DELAWARE:Delaware and Old Dominion have created a huge rivalry in the CAA since the Fightin' Blue Hens arrival in the conference in 2001-02. Old Dominion holds a 10-3 all-time record with the Fightin' Blue Hens with a 4-2 record at the Bob Carpenter Center. Delaware's other victory came at the Ted Constant Convocation Center in a game that snapped ODU's 122 CAA home game win streak. The Lady Monarchs won the first three meeting before Delaware picked up its first victory over the Lady Monarchs in 2003 with a 58-50 victory. However, in the rematch, the Lady Monarchs captured their 12th straight CAA title with a 66-58 win in the CAA Tournament championship game. Two seasons ago, during the 2004-05 season, the Blue Hens swept the season series from the Lady Monarchs, however, once again, the Lady Monarchs rebounded by defeating Delaware, 78-74, in the championship game of the CAA Tournament. The game, which gave ODU its 14th consecutive CAA title, went into overtime and was one of the most memorable tournament finales in memory. Last season, Old Dominion and Delaware met just once with the Lady Monarchs earning a 63-47 win at ODU's annual "Hoops for a Cure" game.
LAST TIME VS. DELAWARE:The Old Dominion women's basketball team handed the University of Delaware a 63-47 loss on February 11, 2007 at the Ted Constant Convocation Center in the annual "Hoops for a Cure" game. Delaware, who entered the game winners in 10 of their last 11, had a four-game win streak snapped. The 47 points were the fewest the Blue Hens have scored all season and the fewest since netting only 41 in a 41-55 setback at UNC-Wilmington back on January 6th. Additionally it was Delaware's largest loss since a 27-point setback at James Madison, 57-84, back on February 1, 2004. Former Lady Monarch Sherida Triggs collected her second double-double of the year and 11th of her career with a team-high 12 points and 11 rebounds. Triggs was one of four Lady Monarchs in double figures along with 11 from T.J. Jordan and 10 from both Tiffany Green and Tay Ransburg. Delaware was led by leading scorer Tyresa Smith with a game-high 25 points. Chrissy Fisher was the only other Blue Hen in double figures with 14. Old Dominion had a balanced attack as they outscored the Delaware bench, 21-4. All four points came from Courtney Irving, who also hauled in a team-high eight rebounds. The Lady Monarchs had their best performance from the line all season shooting 91.7 percent (11-of-12) from the stripe. Green, who at times has struggled from the line, went a perfect 4-of-4 as one of three Lady Monarchs to go perfect at the charity stripe. Old Dominion broke open the game midway through the first half. Ahead by one, 19-18, with 9:04 left until intermission, the Lady Monarch defense would hold the Blue Hens without a field goal the rest of the half. Delaware was held to just four points from the line as Old Dominion entered the half up 28-22. The Lady Monarchs would not allow the Blue Hens any closer than five points in the second half. A three-pointer by Fisher close the gap to 39-34 with 14:05 left in the game, but that would be the last points Delaware would see over the next six and a half minutes. Old Dominion proceeded to take a 13-0 run and watch its lead go into double figures and remain there the rest of the game. Smith was able to break drought at the 6:01 mark hitting one of two free throws, but the Blue Hens would not see its first field goal since the ODU run began until 4:58 remained in the game thanks to an Irving lay-up. Six of the Blue Hens' final eight points of the game came from the line. Ransburg managed to give the Lady Monarchs its largest lead of the afternoon, a 23-point 63-40 advantage, with 2:14 left.
CAA STREAK:Old Dominion has won its last 18 straight CAA contests. The Lady Monarchs last loss in league play was a 79-50 against James Madison in Harrisonburg on February 1, 2007.
UNDEFEATED - AT HOME:Old Dominion is currently 7-0 at home and finished non-conference play at 5-0 at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.
HOME COURT STREAK:The Lady Monarchs have won 18 straight home contests dating back to the Dec. 20, 2006, 72-55, victory over national runner-up Rutgers. ODU's last loss at the Ted Constant Convocation Center was against national champion Tennessee, 59-75, back on Dec. 22, 2006.
CAA HOME COURT STREAK: The Lady Monarchs have won 28 straight home CAA contests dating back to the January 14, 2005, 78-59, victory over Virginia Commonwealth. ODU's last conference loss at the Ted Constant Convocation Center was against Delaware, 70-73, on January 9, 2005. Old Dominion holds a 153-2 home CAA mark.
SIXTH LADY:Sophomore Jessica Canady, Old Dominion's sixth man...or lady, notched a career-high 28 points against Northeastern on January 24th. Canady finished the night 10-of-14 from the field and 8-of-9 from the free throw line. Twenty-two of her career-high 28 points came in the first half, including a run of 14 straight points. With the Lady Monarchs down 10-4 in the early part of the opening half, Canady went on a 14-1 run of her own to give Old Dominion the lead for good.
NEARING A TOP TEN: Junior Jazzmin Walters is getting closer to cracking the top ten junior assist list at Old Dominion. Walters, who dished out nine in ODU's last outing at Northeastern, has handed out 92 assists on the year needing 11 more to surpass Debbie Richard, who holds 10th place with 102 dished during her junior season in 1977.
DEJA FREE THROW:For two straight years, Old Dominion has escaped Williamsburg with a win over William & Mary thanks to free throws from junior Tiffany Green. Green was at the line with 1:11 remaining against the Tribe, putting the Lady Monarch junior in a similar circumstance to last year. In 2007, Green, who at times struggles from the charity stripe, iced two free throws to seal last year's victory. This year, Green once again went to the line, with Old Dominion clinging to a one-point lead, and nailed both her free throw attempts and followed up with a lay-up after the Tribe missed a three-pointer in an attempt to tie the score to seal the game.
I GET BY WITH A LITTLE HELPFROM MY FRIENDS:Leading scorer T.J. Jordan was held to one point, stemming from a free throw, in the Lady Monarchs' 86-66 victory over Virginia Commonwealth. Despite the Lady Monarchs' leading scorer having an off-night, six different Lady Monarchs scored in double figures to help lead ODU to victory. The bench was also a tremendous help as well as they outscored the Ram bench 37-15.
WHAT A RUN: It may have been James Madison ahead at the half by two, in the first meeting with the Dukes on January 13th, but an electrifying second half that included a 26-0 run by the Lady Monarchs helped spark the Lady Monarchs to a 82-57 win. Old Dominion outscored James Madison, 49-22, in the second half.
IT'S NOT THE SIZE OF THE DOG IN THE FIGHT; IT'S THE SIZE OF THE FIGHT IN THE DOG:Just because junior Jazzmin Walters is 5-2, doesn't mean she can't hang with the tall girls. While nine members of the Vanderbilt women's basketball team are 5-11 or taller, it was five-foot-two Jazzmin Walter's who was the game's leading rebounder in ODU's match-up with the then No. 21/20 Commodores. Walters hauled in a career-high seven boards as Old Dominion outrebounded Vanderbilt, 40-29. Walters repeated her career rebounding performance against Virginia Commonwealth on January 17th, which included six defensive rebounds against a squad that had eight members at 5-10 or taller.
PASSING A LEGEND:Senior T.J. Jordan has moved up three spots on the ODU all-time scoring list since the beginning of the season. With her game-high 18 points against James Madison in the first meeting with the Dukes, she surpassed a Lady Monarch legend. Jordan surpassed current WNBA Sacramento Monarch Ticha Penicherio for 19th on the all-time list. Jordan currently has 1,317 career points.
COUNT TO TEN:With a 79-59 victory over Georgia State to open up the CAA portion of its schedule on January 6th, the Lady Monarchs collected their 10th win of the season. It was the fastest Old Dominion has collected 10 wins since the 1997-98 team accomplished the feat on January 4th.
CANADY SEEING DOUBLE:Sophomore Jessica Canady, who helped the Lady Monarchs improve to 17-0 all-time in CAA openers in a 79-59 win at Georgia State, was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Player of the Week for the week ending January 6th. She is the second Lady Monarch to earn a weekly honor from the conference this season. Canady came off the bench and poured in a then career-high 21 points along with 10 rebounds. It was her second double-double of the season and of her career and the first time in her career she scored over 20 points in a game. Canady shot a blistering 7-of-8 from the field (87.5 percent) and a perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line.
UP NEXT: The No. 13/18 Old Dominion women's basketball team returns home to the friendly confines of the Ted Constant Convocation Center for its next two games. The Lady Monarchs will close out season series with Georgia State on Thursday, January 31 at 7:00 p.m. and UNC-Wilmington on Sunday, February 3 at 2:00 p.m.
