Norfolk, Va. - The Old Dominion University men's tennis team opened its spring campaign on Sunday with a history making tripleheader sweep. Playing three dual matches in the same day for the first time ever, the Monarchs defeated the College of Charleston 5-2, George Washington 6-1 and Norfolk State 7-0.
Winning all but one doubles match, the Monarchs earned the doubles point in each contest. Aleksandr Seleznev and Eidy Igarashi finished a perfect 3-0 at No. 1 doubles, while at No. 2 doubles the duo of Rodrigo Souza and Tobias Fanselow also posted a perfect 3-0 mark.
In singles play Seleznev finished 2-0 at the No. 1 singles position, but three other Monarchs posted 3-0 marks on the day. Yakov Diskin, Souza and Fanselow all earned three straight set victories as they competed at several different singles positions throughout the day.
The Monarchs return to the courts this Wednesday, Jan. 23 when they'll host the College of William & Mary at 5 p.m.
