CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Old Dominion men's and women's swimming and diving squads returned to the water on Saturday as both teams swept the College of Charleston. The Old Dominion men improved to a perfect 6-0 by a winning score of 147-91, while the women upped their overall mark to 4-3 with a 139-103 victory.
The women captured seven first place times in the day's events along with a top score in 3 meter diving. The men took home nine first place finishes, including both diving events.
Leading the way for the men were Patrik Balint and Kristofer Hagg. Balint captured first place in the 200 free (1:55.71) and 200 back (2:05.27) and swimming as a member of the 400 free relay team (3:35.79).Hagg joined Balint on the winning 400 free relay squad and also earn top times in the 400 free (4:12.37) and 800 free (8:44.37).
Noah Scully also helped the Monarchs to victory by sweeping the 1 meter (334.58) and 3 meter (312.15) events. Both scores were Scully's highest of the season.
Other notable performances included Joshua Kinas with a first place finish in the 400 IM (4:43.66) and Chad Gangwer hitting the wall first in the 100 free (54.32).
The women were led by Caroline Larsson with top times in the 400 IM (5:07.72) and the 400 free (4:29.69) and April Barrientos with a top time in the 200 back (2:22.44) and helping the 400 medley relay team (4:28.48) to victory.
Other top performances by the Lady Monarchs against the Cougars included Hannah Kess in the 200 fly (2:25.40), Elizaveta Moiseeva in the 100 free (1:00.22), Jennifer Sargent in the 200 breast (2:39.59), and Jasmine Moore in the 1 meter (228.30).
The Monarch and Lady Monarch swimming and diving teams return to action on Saturday, January 26th in a tri-meet against American, Army, and CAA member George Mason in Fairfax.
