NEWARK, Del. (AP) - Herb Courtney scored 27 points, including a pair of 3-pointers in the first overtime, as Delaware (8-7/5-0)took an 81-74 double-overtime victory over Old Dominion (8-9/3-2) in a Colonial Athletic Association game Saturday night. Brandon Johnson led ODU with 20 points, nine rebounds and five steals on the night.
Delaware used an 8-1 run to take a 77-71 lead in the second overtime. Old Dominion got back to within 77-74 on a Brandon Johnson three-pointer with 1:03 remaining, but the Hens sank 2-of-6 foul shots in the final 34 seconds to seal the win.
Jim Ledsome's dunk off an offensive rebound just before the final buzzer capped the win, as he scored six of his eight points in the finalovertime period. In the first overtime, the Monarchs jumped out to a 65-62 lead, after Brian Henderson hit two free throws, then a trey, but Courtney hit back-to-back three-pointers, the second with 37 seconds remaining to the score at 68-68.
Alphonso Dawson added 12 points for Delaware, which also received 11 from Brian Johnson and Marc Egerson, whose 3-pointer with 4.4 seconds left in regulation forced the first overtime. Old Dominion received a team-high 20 points from Brandon Johnson. Gerald Leeadded 18 points and eight rebounds, while senior Brian Henderson scored13 points and hauled down ten boards.
ODU led 62-59 with 47 seconds left in regulation after a Gerald Leethree-point play. After a missed UD layup, the Blue Hens got the ballout of bounds and Marc Egerson (who played against ODU last year atGeorgetown drains a trey with 4 seconds left to send the game intoovertime.
After regulation, UD was 9-24 from three-point range and finished thegame 11-30. ODU outrebounded UD, 45-38 and shot .377 (26-69) fromthe floor.
ODU returns home to host James Madison Wednesday night at 7 p.m. inthe Constant Center.
