Final Stats

NORFOLK, Va. -- ODU opened the 2007 STIHL Soccer Classic with a 1-0 loss to Dartmouth College (2-1-1) and the Monarchs record slipped to 1-3-1 with the loss. The Monarchs dominated in nearly every facet of the game, including outshooting the Big Green 15-3, but Dartmouth would find the net on a transition goal late in the second half for the win. Trevor Banks led the way for ODU with four shots, two on-goal.

The Monarchs maintained possession for much of the game and did not allow a Big Green shot in the first half. Dartmouth only mustered three shots on the stingy Monarchs defense the entire game. The Monarchs found themselves caught in transition when sophomore Daniel Keat ripped home the game-winning goal on a cross from freshman Andrew Olsen in the 78th minute of play.

The 1,665 on hand to watch got to see what turned out to be an extremely physical game. The teams combined for 22 called fouls as each team received one yellow card, including a caution served to ODU freshman Stig Haddal in the 65th minute of play. Haddal had three shots on the night.

Senior A.J. Kulp also took two shots and put one on goal and freshman T.J. Beaulieu mirrored Kulp's effort.

ODU sophomore keeper Evan Newton stopped the only other shot-on-goal Dartmouth took and played all 90 minutes in the loss. Dartmouth's goalie Sean Milligan notched three saves in the win.

In the first game of the STIHL Soccer Classic, William & Mary downed Temple University 3-1. Alan Koger knocked home two goals in the game, as he took six shots with five on-net. Brock Jones scored the third goal and also assisted on another.

William & Mary would jump to the early lead, scoring two goals in a span of 2:16 early in the first half. Koger found the twine off an assist by Doug Ernst in the 17th minute of play and then again scored in the 19th minute of play off of Jones' assist.

Temple would answer at the 41 minute mark on a penalty kick to pull within one headed into the locker room.

For the game, William & Mary outshot Temple 19-9 and put six more shots-on-goal than the Owls. Brock Jones made the score final with a penalty kick in the 57th minute of play.

The Classic will continue on Sunday, September 16 with kick-off for the William & Mary/Dartmouth game scheduled for 12:00 pm and the Temple/Old Dominion game scheduled for 2:30 pm.
