BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) -- Blazers' Robert Vaden scored 27 points and Lawrence Kinnard added 19 to lead UAB to a 73-57 victory over Old Dominion on Saturday.

Darius James led Old Dominion with 12 points, while Gerald Lee and Brian Henderson had 11 points each.

Kinnard grabbed 14 rebounds to lead UAB to a 45-42 edge on the boards. Ben Finney had 10 rebounds and fellow freshman Darius James added seven boards for Old Dominion.

UAB (9-5) jumped to a 20-2 lead as Vaden hit three early 3-pointers. Old Dominion (6-7) went scoreless for more than nine minutes in the first half.

UAB's biggest lead was at 27-4, and the Blazers led 40-19 at halftime.

Old Dominion shot 27.6 percent from the field in the first half.

The Monarchs warmed up in the second half and twice cut the margin to 12 points. The first time came at 45-33, but Vaden hit two 3-pointers to spark a 9-0 UAB run. The second time came at 59-47 with 6:10 to play.

But Kinnard scored six points down the stretch to help keep UAB in front.

The Monarchs shot .324 (23-71) from the floor, while UAB was .400 (22-55).Gerald Lee was 5-10 from the field for ODU.

ODU returns to CAA action Wednesday night when they host Hofstra at7 p.m. in the Ted Constant Convocation Center.
