WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Old Dominion men's and women's swimming and diving teams returned to the pool this weekend, traveling to the nation's capital where they swept George Washington. The women won 16 events en-route to a 157-124 victory over the Colonials, while the men placed first in 13 events on their way to claiming a 185-95 win. The women to improve to 3-3 overall, while the men up their mark to 5-0 overall.

Highlights of the afternoon included Wesley Murai's performance in the 50 free and April Barrientos' time in the 100 back. Murai's first place finish in a time of 21.58 gave him the top Monarch time in the event this season. Meanwhile, Barrientos logged her fifth 100 back time in under a minute as she hit the wall in a time of 58.83 to take first.

For the women, the day opened with a victory in the 400 medley relay as the Lady Monarchs proceeded to win the next three events. The 400 medley relay squad, comprised of Barrientos, Jennifer Sargent, Hannah Kess, and Elizaveta Moiseeva placed first in a time of 1:50.29, four seconds ahead of the second place Colonial squad.

Caroline Larsson, Kelli North, and Kendra Hogg went one-two-three in the 1000 free. Larsson led all swimmer with a time of 10:32.19 followed by North in 10:47.98 and Hogg in 10:53.40. Larsson would also log a first place finish in the 500 free. She recorded a time of 5:11.30, way ahead of second place teammate Hogg, who placed second in a time of 5:19.21.

Moiseeva placed first in the 200 free, adding to her first finishes as one of the members of the 400 medley relay squad. Moiseeva placed first by two second by hitting the wall in 1:57.73.

Kess and Christina Gianni placed first and second respectively in the 200 fly. Kess swam .36 seconds faster than her teamate for the top time with 2:13.17 while Gianni followed with a time of 2:13.53. Kess would also register the top time in the 100 fly in 1.00.17.

In addition to her top finish in the 100 back, Barrientos also took home the top finish in the 200 back. Barrientos clocked in a 2:09.83, nearly six seconds faster than George Washington's second place contestant.

Sargent helped Old Dominion to the top time in 200 breast. She hit the wall in a time of 2:26.66.

In diving, Jasmine Moore placed first in the 3 meter with score of 157.45.

On the men's side, the Monarchs won all but three of the day's events.

The afternoon started with the 200 medley relay squad, including Wesley Murai, Johan Lundberg, Vincent Pastore, and Patrik Balint, bringing home a time of 1:38.54.

Kristofer Hagg and Chris Plummer went one-two in the 1000 free. Hagg was the lone member of the entrants to swim under the 10-minute mark. He clocked a 9:57.78, while Plummer swam to second in a time of 10:24.43.

The 1000 free was the first of two events Hagg would take first in. The Monarchs went one-two-three in the 500 free. Hagg placed first in the 500 free with a time of 4:49.53, three seconds faster than Daniel Gallagher's 4:52.92 second place time. Chris Plummer swam to third registering a time of 4:58.85.

Hagg would finish second in the 100 free behind teammate Mikael Ramkvist. Ramkvist logged a 48.77 narrowly edging out Hagg by .10 of a second.

Balint won two events against George Washington. His first was the 200 free in a time of 1:44.98, while he recorded a time of 1:54.00 to win the 200 back.

Joshua Kinas also logged two top times against the Colonials. His first occured in the 100 breast with a time of 1.00.13, while his second was a 2:12.42 time in the 200 breast.

Kevin Latimer won the 200 fly as he hit the side of the pool in 2:00.29.

Jonathan Dee led the Monarchs in the 100 fly as Old Dominion took first through fourth in the event. Dee clocked a 53.22 while Vincent Pastore claimed second with a 53.53.

In diving action, two-time CAA Diver of the Week Noah Scully won both the 1 and 3 meters. On the 1 meter, Scully captured a score of 176.65, while on the 1 meter, he registered a 218.05 in the 3 meter.

The Old Dominion men's and women's swimming and diving teams will travel to Florida for their annual training trip later this month. Their next meet will be a against the College of Charleston on Saturday, January 19th.
