NORFOLK, Va. -- Three Lady Monarchs picked up double-doubles and six scored in double figures, including all the members of the starting line-up, in the Old Dominion women's basketball team's 101-42 victory over Athletes-In-Action Tuesday night at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.
Senior Megan Pym (Newfield, N.Y.) poured in 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, junior Tiffany Green (Chesapeake, Va.) added in 11 points along with 12 boards, and junior Jazzmin Walters (Norfolk, Va.) registered 10 points and dished out 10 assists.
For the second straight exhibition game, senior T.J. Jordan (Portsmouth, Va.) led all scores with 18 points, including 13 first half points. Also registering double figures were senior Shahida Williams (Newark, N.J.) with 10 and sophomore Jessica Canady (Williamsburg, Va.), who came off the bench to net 13.
A three-pointer by Walters sparked a 12-0 run at the halfway point of the first half to help the Lady Monarchs build up a double figure lead for good. By halftime, Old Dominion held a 55-23 halftime advantage.
The second half saw the Lady Monarchs outscore Athletes-In-Action, 46-19. Over a span of nearly eight minutes, Old Dominion outscored its exhibition counterparts, 27-2.
Tuesday's game against Athletes-In-Action was the final preseason game for the Lady Monarchs. They will open up the 2007-08 regular season on Saturday, November 10th against Middle Tennesseee State University with tip-off at 7:00 p.m.. The Blue Raiders are receiving votes in both national polls and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season.
