SERIES WITH EAST CAROLINA: Tuesday will mark the 50th meeting between the Lady Monarchs and Lady Pirates with Old Dominion holding a 40-9 advantage in the all-time series. East Carolina was once a member of the Colonial Athletic Association and regularly met Old Dominion on the hardwood from the Lady Monarchs entry into the league in 1991 through the Pirates departure to Conference USA after the 2000-01 season. This will mark the second meeting between these two schools since the Pirates left the CAA. East Carolina only managed to defeat ODU once during regular season competition with a 71-57 in February of 1992. After that Old Dominion rattled off 27 straight wins over the Pirates including seven CAA Tournament victories.
LAST TIME VS. EAST CAROLINA: The Old Dominion women's basketball team got its first win of the 2006-07 season by handing former CAA rival East Carolina a 77-66 loss at the Ted Constant Convocation Center back on Nov. 21, 2007. It was the first meeting between the two squads since the Pirates departed from the CAA to Conference USA. T.J. Jordan led the team in scoring for the third straight game with 16 points, connecting on 4-of-7 from the field, 3-of-6 from three-point range, and a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line. East Carolina also saw three in double figures with Cherie Mills leading the way with 17 points. Jasmine Young collected 16 points, while LaCoya Terry dropped in 13. In a rare occurance, the opposition outrebounded Old Dominion. The Pirates held a 45-33 advantage on the boards, which included holding the Lady Monarchs to just seven offensive rebounds. Ransburg led the squad on the glass with six rebounds. East Carolina saw Mills and Jessica Slack record nine. Old Dominion had a 39-27 lead at the half and led by as many as 18 in the opening stanza. Sophomore Jen Nuzzo came off the bench to hit one of her two treys of the evening to give the Lady Monarchs a 12-9 edge and the lead for good at the 14:31 mark. The Lady Monarchs managed to hold off a second half comeback by the Pirates. With Old Dominion leading 46-33 and enjoying a 13-point edge, East Carolina used a 12-2 run to pull within three with 9:56 left in the game. Outscoring the Pirates 13-2 sparked by nine straight points by Jordan, the Lady Monarchs push their lead to 14, 61-47, with 5:50 left. During the run, Jordan hit two three's and was fouled on an attempt where she went to the line to hit all three free throw attempts. Ransburg helped the Lady Monarchs to their largest lead of the half on a jumper to give ODU a 15-point advantage, 68-53, with just 2:43 remaining in the game. Over the next minute and a half, East Carolina outscored Old Dominion 10-2, making it a seven-point ball game. EXHIBITION RECAP - ATHLETES-IN-ACTION: Three Lady Monarchs picked up double-doubles and six scored in double figures, including all the members of the starting line-up, in the Old Dominion women's basketball team's 101-42 victory over Athletes-In-Action. FROM DOWNTOWN: Look at the three-point records section in the ODU history book and you'll see senior T.J. Jordan's name nearly everywhere! Last season Jordan ranked fourth nationally in three-point field goals per game hitting an average of 3.1 per contest. She hit 10 three-pointers against Northeastern late last February to not only set a new ODU record for three's in a game, but it was the most three's by a Division I women's player last season. Jordan also reset the school record for three-pointers attempted in a game (22), made in a season (101), attempted in a season (283), and attempted in a career (666). The ODU three-point record left for her to break is three-pointers made in a career. The record is currently held by Aubry Eblin (1995-99) with 250 made in a career. Jordan is catching up with 241 to date.
