NORFOLK, VA--Old Dominion University freshman forward Ben Finneyscored a game high 17 points on eight for nine shooting from the fieldto lead the Monarchs to a 78-65 exhibition win over Shepherd University(WVA.) Monday night.
Senior guard Brian Henderson added 11 points, while Marsharee Neely andSam Harris came off the bench to score nine each. Jonathan Adams scoredeight points and had a game high nine rebounds.Freshman Darius James dished out a game high five assists on the night.
ODU's biggest lead was 20, 60-40 with 11:14 left in the game, and againwith 2:13 left at 78-58. The Monarchs shot .446 (29-65) from the floor and outrebounded the Rams, 46-31.
Shephered was led by Derek Gallagher with 20 points as he hit eight oftwelve shots from the floor.He scored 14 of those points in the second half. Fred Lymas added 16 points and five boards.Shepherd shot .434 (23-53) from the floor.
The Monarchs open the regular season on Sunday at 2 p.m. againstSouth Carolina State in the Constant Center. This game is part ofthe Findlay Las Vegas Tournament.
