NORFOLK, VA--Freshman forward T.J. Beaulieu's (Apex, NC.)firsthalf goal lifted the Monarchs of Old Dominion University (5-4-1/2-0) to a1-0 victory over three-time defending CAA Champion Hofstra (1-5-2/0-2)Sunday afternoon.
With about 28 minutes left in the first half Beaulieu got a pass fromthe right side by Ollie Lutton (Shenley, England) on a give-and-go and stuck it in the righthand corner of the net. Beaulieu now leads theMonarchs with three goals and is tied for the team lead in points withTrevor Banks at six.
The Monarchs defense led by David Horst (Pine Grove, PA. ), Yomby William (Cameroon) and sophomore keeper Evan Newton (Virginia Beach, VA.) held Hofstra to without a shot in the first half and just three on the day. ODU outshot the Pride, 15-3.
The victory was ODU's first over the Pride since the 2005 regular season.
ODU returns home next weekend to play host to VCU on Friday nightat 7 p.m. and James Madison on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
