Four Sailors Compete In U.S. Olympic Trials

PORTSMOUTH, RI--Three Old Dominion University sailing greats and onecurrent sailing Monarch will compete for the right to represent the United States inChina at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials beginning Saturday, Oct. 6.

ODU Sports Hall of Famer, and 2004 Olympic silver medalist Charlie Ogletree ('89) will again team with John Lovell in the Tornado class. The duo have competedin three straight Olympics. Their strongest challengers in the six-boat event figure to be Robbie Daniel and Hunter Stunzi of Charleston, SC.

Three-time collegiate national champion, and current number one ranked U.S. sailor Anna Tunnicliffe (ODU'05) will compete in the Laser Radial event. Paige Riley of Clearwater, FL. the 2006 Rolex Yachtswoman of the Year will be Anna's top rival in the 22-boat class.

Two-time Collegiate All-American, and current number one ranked U.S. sailor Brad Funk (ODU' 02), along with current Monarch sophomore Kyle Rogachenko will (Collegeville, PA.) battle national notables Andrew Campbell of San Diego and Kurt Taulbee of Dunedin, FL. in the 33-boat laser class. Rogachenko ranks among the nations top five in laser competition. Said Funk "I expect this to be the hardest regatta I've ever competed in and I expect a number of sailors will be right in the mix until the very end."
