WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- The No. 10 Old Dominion field hockey team closed out the 2007 regular season by capturing its seventh shutout of the season in a 4-0 victory over William & Mary Sunday afternoon.

The win improves the Lady Monarchs to 11-8 overall and a perfect 8-0 regular season Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) mark. The Tribe fell to 9-10 overall and 2-6 in league action.

Old Dominion will be the top-seed at the upcoming CAA Tournament to be held at the National Training Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Old Dominion had a 3-0 advantage at the half thanks in part to two Lady Monarchs notching their first goals of the season. Senior Shannon Mobley (Va. Beach, Va.) collected the game-winner off a rebound in the eighth minute of play for her first goal of the year. At the 27 minute mark, sophomore Alyschia Conn (Peach Bottom, Pa.) also tallied her first goal of the season off a pass from junior Katelyn Smither (Suffolk, Va.). Nearly two minutes later, sophomore Katie Ueberroth (Stevens, Pa.) collected her sixth goal of the season.

Old Dominion scored only once in the second half. Smither fired off a hard shot on a penalty corner for the 4-0 ODU advantage. Ueberroth and Beek were credited with the assists, marking Beek's second of the game and 12th of the season.

Junior netminder Kelly Driscoll (West Chester, Pa.) made two stops in the victory for Old Dominion, while the Tribe's Gwen Hunter registered seven saves.

The Old Dominion field hockey team heads to the beach next weekend at the CAA Tournament semifinals. Stay tuned to odusports.com for more information.
