ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Monarch sailing team, receiving votes in this weeks Sailing World College Rankings, is in 7th place at the MAISA Open after day one. Thomas O'Bryan and Kristen Cumming sailed to 6th in A division while Alan Alkins and Amanda Rendall are in 10th in B division. The team has combined for 68 points, just 16 back of the top five.
O'Bryan and Cumming finished in the top five, including one third place finish, in four of the six completed races. Their 33 points is just 14 off the lead in A division.
Sophomore skipper Alkins and crew Rendall tallied 35 points in the first day in four races. They finished fifth, third, and eighth before having to accept a 19-point heat for starting on the course side of the starting line. Still, they are just 14 points out of the top five in B division heading into the second day of racing.
