NORFOLK, Va. -- The Lady Monarchs fell to 7-5-2 overall and 3-4-1 in CAA action with a crushing 0-1 loss to the Towson Tigers (9-5-1, 3-4-1). Old Dominion seemed to control the match from whistle to whistle, but with four regular starters out, an own goal in the 55th minute would prove to be the difference. Senior Lisa McKenzie took four shots to lead the team, followed by three from junior Jenni Purdum.

Old Dominion controlled the first half with an aggressive attack, including nine shots. ODU was able to hold Towson to just one first half shot, which was saved by junior keeper Colby Owen.

The second half, Towson would raise the pressure on the ODU defense and just over nine minutes into the half they would be rewarded. In transition, sophomore Kaitlyn Zamroz would find herself alone in the box with Owen, but her shot went wide off the left post. ODU senior Beth Messier got a head on it in an attempt to clear the ball, but the deflection bounced into the goal for the Towson score.

The Lady Monarchs would keep pushing offensively, but could not connect on a number of opportunities. With five minutes remaining, the best chance came as Elizabeth Brewster poked a ball through the middle to the streaking junior Janna Pearson. Pearson would get a touch, but then was bumped by a Tiger defender and would be unable to get a shot off.

Just over a minute later, Saratu Dodo would lace a line drive shot toward the right corner of the goal, but Towson's senior keeper Brandi Daniels would make the stop. Daniels had four saves in the match.

Junior keeper Colby Owen was in goal for her second straight start and allowed just the one goal with two saves. Her goals against average for the season is 0.56 in four games played.

ODU outshot Towson 14-7 in the game, and had six corner kicks to the Tigers two. Senior forward Lisa McKenzie took a game-high four shots, followed by junior Jenni Purdum with three, including one on-goal.

The Lady Monarchs will return to the field as they host UNC Wilmington Friday night at 7:00 pm. The game will play a big part in the CAA postseason picture, as Wilmington dropped a 2-0 decision to Drexel on Sunday, making their conference record to 4-4.
