TOWSON, MD--Kevin Ruck's goal with a little more than 35 minutes left in the match lifted the Tigers of Towson (8-4-1/5-1) to a 1-0 victory over Old Dominion (8-5-1/5-1) Sunday afternoon in a battle between two teams who both reached the NCAAround of 16 last year. It was ODU's first CAA loss of the season.
Matt Beckman crossed the ball in front of the goal and Ruck shot it in for theonly goal of the day. ODU outshot Towson, 14-9 overall and 7-5 in shots on goalBilly Chiles registered his fifth shutout of the season as he had seven saves on the day.Evan Newton had four for the Monarchs.
There were 34 fouls called in the match with eight cards givenout.
The win was Towson's 16th straight at home. ODU returns to action Friday whenthey travel to UNC Wilmington, then host Georgia State in their final regular seasonhome match on Sunday, Oct. 28 at 1 p.m.
