Swimming And Diving Spilts Meet With Towson

TOWSON, Md. -- The Old Dominion swimming and diving teams spilt Saturday's meet with Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) rival Towson with the men taking a 171-129 victory and the women falling 197-96.

The win for the men's squad improves the Monarchs to 2-0 this season while the women drop to 1-1 overall.

On the men's side, the Monarchs captured nine first place finishes led by Joshua Kinas taking winning two events in the 100 and 200 breast and CAA Men's Diver of the Week, Noah Scully, winning both the 1 meter and 3 meter.

Scully captured both the 1 meter and 3 meter events for the second straight week. Scully's score of 293.85 on the 1 meter was nearly 100 points higher than Peter Stickl's second place score of 194.48. Scully captured a 279.67 on the 3 meter followed by Stick's 223.05 for second place, and Brain Etter's 209.25 score for third place.

Josh Kinas won both the 100 and 200 breaststroke events. He was not only top time in the 100 breast but also the only member of the event to clock in under a minute as he logged a time of 59.43. In the 200 breast, Kinas clocked in a 2:10.55.

The Monarchs took home the top two finishes in both the 200 free, 100 back, and 500 free. In the 200 free Chad Gangwer won the event in a time of 1:43.92 and Patrik Balint second in a time of 1:45.26. The 100 back saw Mikael Ramkvist earn first with a time of 52.95 and Johan Lundberg reach the wall second in 54.70. The 500 free had Kristofer Hagg earn first (4:47.46) with Balient placing second (4:48.13).

Old Dominion had success in another backstroke event as the Monarchs finished one, two, three in the 200 back. Ramkvist swam his way to his second top time in 1:53.78 barely edging out his teammate Balient, who was a close second with a time of 1:53.80. Dan Gallagher followed in third with his time of 1:58.56.

Another first place time went to Kevin Latimer in the 200 fly (1:55.53).

On the women's side, April Barrientos, Jennifer Sargent, and Caroline Larsson captured top time in their respective events.

Barrientos captured the Lady Monarchs first top event time in the 100 back event with a 1:00.04 finish.

Sargent won the 100 breast in a time of 1:08.68 taking the top time .33 seconds ahead of teammate Kelley Sayers. Sargent and Sayers also came in third (2:27.91) and fourth (2:27.91) respectively in the 200 breast.

Larsson captured the 500 free hitting the wall in a time of 5:08.42. She was was a second place finisher in two events. Larsson was a runner-up in the 1000 free (10:29.63) and 400 IM (4:38.50).

Hanna Kess placed second in two events. She posted a time of 2:12.14 in the 200 fly and a 1:00.61 in the 100 fly missing out on first place by .64 seconds.

Diver Jasmine Moore placed second in both the 1 meter and 3 meter. Moore posted a 209.85 on the 1 meter and was edged out by .30 of a point in the 3 meter with a 220.50.

The Old Dominion swimming and diving teams will return to action on November 3rd in Boston in CAA action. The men's squad will take to the pool to compete against Delaware while the while women will compete against both Delaware and Northeastern.
