NORFOLK, VA--The Old Dominion University women's golf squad will host the seven-team Lady Monarch Invitational Oct. 22 and 23rd at the Cedar Point Country Club in Suffolk, Va. Joining ODU will be Hampton, Towson, South Carolina State,Charleston Southern, Long Island and Radford. On Monday the teams will play 36 holes and finish with 18 holes on Tuesday.The Lady Monarchs are enjoying another strong fall season with three top tenfinishes, including a third at Marshall, and a seventh place finish at William and Mary.Senior Meghan Schaefer (Union, KY.) and freshman Emma Gilmore (Ireland) are tied for the team lead in stroke average at 79.9. Laura Holmes (Ireland) is next at 80.6 and Alexis Garduno (Sacramento, CA.)is at 81.8.
Gilmore has been ODU's top performer in two events which include a sixth placefinish at Marshall. Garduno and Schefer tied for 15th at William and Mary and RashelleFetty tied for 25th at Myrtle Beach.
Longwood comes to the tournament with a fourth place finish at Richmond anda sixth place finish at Iowa. Mary Carmody has a 74.7 stroke average and Kameron Carter is at 76.9. Radford's Megan Leineweber earned Big South Player of the Week after a sixth place finish at Draper Valley, while Morgan Reich and Brian Yaniger helped Towson take fourth at the ECAC Championships.
Natalie Desjardins paces Long Island as she was the North East Conference's Player of the Week after a ninth place finish at the ECAC Championships. South Carolina State is paced by Honesty Biggers and Geneva Mackey.
South Carolina Upstate is led by Richelle Wedzik who tied for sixth at Sea Trailand ninth at Rutgers. USCU has placed in the top ten of all three of their tournaments thus far. Charleston Southern finished second at Draper and sixth at Great Smokies Collegiate. Olivia Jordan-Higgns paces CSU with a first at Draper, while Lauren Davis has led Hampton thus far, including a 16th place finish at Stone Mountain.
