BOSTON, Mass. -- The Old Dominion Lady Monarchs (5-2-2, 1-1-1) battled the Northeastern Huskies (2-6-2, 0-2-1) to a 1-1 tie through double overtime on Friday night. Shavon Knight scored her sixth goal of the season to tie the game in the first half, but Old Dominion would struggle offensively in the match the rest of the way.
The Huskies would strike first in the match in the 20th minute off the foot of Liza Rebello. It was her first goal of the season and it came off an assist from Sofia Palmquist.
Just over five minutes later, junior Shavon Knight (Waldorf, Maryland) would knot up the score with an unassisted goal. She corralled a loose ball in the box, beat a defender and found the upper right corner for the goal.
The goal was Knight's sixth of the year and her 24th career goal. The junior is currently 5th in ODU All-Time goals (24) and points (55).
Knight led the offensive attack from ODU with six shots, three on-goal. Lizzy Brewster also had three shots. The game snapped Brewster's five-game goal-scoring streak. Kirstin Walker also added a shot on-goal.
ODU was outshot for just the second time all season, as Northeastern took 12 shots to the Lady Monarchs 10. The ODU defense played well, drawing the Huskies offsides 12 times in the match.
ODU keeper Lauren Tupman made four saves and allowed just one goal in the entire 110:00 minutes.
The team travels south to face the Hofstra Pride (8-2-0, 2-1-0), who dropped just their second game of the season Friday night, to William & Mary. Kick-off Sunday is slated for noon.
