NEWARK, Del. -- Rookie Loran Hatch (Green Lane, Pa.) found her way to the back of the Delaware cage with just 34 seconds remaining in regulation to lift the No. 13/11 Old Dominion field hockey team to a 1-0 victory over the No. 18 Fightin' Blue Hens at Rullo Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The victory pushes the Lady Monarch over .500 for the first time this season as they improve to 6-5 overall and 3-0 in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play. It was Old Dominion's fifth straight win and third straight shutout. The Lady Monarchs have now outscored CAA competition 6-0. Delaware, meanwhile, had its two-game win streak come to a halt and falls to 9-3 overall and 2-2 in league play.

For Hatch, it was her third goal of the season and first career game-winner. Sophomore Titia Beek (Heiloo, Holland) was credited with the assist. Beek, who leads the CAA in assists and is 11th nationally, continues to lead the Lady Monarchs in points totaling 16 on the season.

Old Dominion outshot Delaware 13-4 and held a 10-3 advantage in penalty corners.

In goal, junior Kelly Driscoll (West Chester, Pa.) made two stops to preserve the shutout. The Blue Hens' Nikki Rhoades posted five saves in the loss.

The Lady Monarch field hockey team returns home to Foreman Field next weekend to host two CAA contests. Old Dominion hosts Hofstra on Saturday, October 6th and Drexel on Sunday, October 7th. Both games begin at 1:00 p.m. and admission is free.
