Charlottesville, Va. - The Old Dominion University women's tennis team got off to a good start in doubles action at the UVA Invitational with a first-day mark of 2-0, but the Lady Monarchs struggled to 1-3 record in singles play.
In Flight A doubles, the team of Charleen Haarhoff and Barbara Costa defeated Victoria Konstantinova and Olena Leonchuk of VCU 8-5, while Jana Kubickova and Marija Citic downed the mixed squad consisting of UNCG's Erica Zabkar and Virginia's Lauren Downing 8-3 in Flight C action.
Haarhof came back to register ODU's only singles win of the day with a straight set victory over Konstantinova, 6-4, 7-5 in Flight A. Kubickova, Costa and Citic all fell in their singles matches.
Play will continue Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. and conclude on Sunday, with play starting at 9 a.m.
