NORFOLK, Va. -- The No. 14/13 Old Dominion field hockey team returns home for two games this weekend. The Lady Monarchs host Radford on Saturday, September 22nd and open Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) action on Sunday, September 23rd. Both games begin at 1:00 p.m. at Foreman Field and admission is free.
The Lady Monarchs are coming off a 1-0 shutout over then-No. 10 Duke. The victory snapped ODU's three-game losing streak and improved the Lady Monarchs to 2-5 overall. All five losses have come at the hands of ranked squads, including losses against North Carolina and Maryland, who were ranked No. 1 at the time of play. This weekend is the first that Old Dominion has not played a team either ranked or receiving votes in either the STX/NFHCA Coaches Poll or the Women's Field Hockey.Com Poll.
Sophomore Titia Beek (Heiloo, Holland) continues to lead the squad with three goals, five assists, and 11 points. Beek tops the CAA in assists and is fourth in points per contest. Senior Jo Ann van Aswegen (Bloemfontein, South Africa) has collected five points as ODU's second leading scorer. She has collected a goal along with three assists. Sophomore Kathleen Shea (Elizaville, N.Y.) along with Katie Ueberroth (Stevens, Pa.) each have two goals apiece. Ueberroth collected the game-winner last weekend against the Blue Devils. In the cage, junior Kelly Driscoll (West Chester, Pa.) is posting a .766 save percentage and 2.58 goals againt average.
Radford comes to Foreman Field with a 2-7 overall record. The Highlanders have dropped five straight contests and are coming off a 2-0 loss to Davidson that snapped a 14-game home win streak. Radford's two victories came with a 3-1 win over Longwood and a 1-0 shutout against Robert Morris. The Highlands fell to common ODU opponents Duke (4-0) and Hofstra (2-1).
The Highlanders are led by junior Erica Lawrence with eight points stemming from three goals and two assists. Rookie forward Kay Tufts, senior defender Emily Jones, and junior defender Holly Lojacono follow on the stat sheet with a goal and an assist apiece. In goal, Jennifer Wisniewski holds a 2.87 goals against average and .675 save percentage.
Northeastern will take on William & Mary Friday night in Williamsburg in their first CAA game of the 2007 season before traveling down to Norfolk. The Huskies enter the weekend with a 3-4 overall mark with victories over Ball State (4-1), Quinnipiac (2-1), and Providence (1-0). Northeastern fell to Northwestern in overtime (2-1) as well as top-ranked Maryland (6-0), American (1-0), and cross-town rival Boston University (3-2).
Northeastern is led by senior forward Harriet Hoyer with three goals for a total of six points. She is closely followed by rookie midfielder Pam Aldridge with two goals and an assist. Junior midfielder Ashley Bascetta checks in as the Huskies' third leading scorer with two goals under her belt. In goal, senior Liz Centofanti holds a .731 save percentage and a 2.00 goals against average.
Follow this weekend's homestand, the Lady Monarchs will hit the road once again. Old Dominion will travel to CAA rivals Towson and Delaware next weekend.
