DURHAM, N.C. -- Sophomore Katie Ueberroth's (Stevens, Pa.) goal lifted the No. 13 Old Dominion field hockey team to a 1-0 victory over No. 10 Duke on Sunday afternoon at Williams Field. Ueberroth's goal, her first career game-winning, came four minutes into the second half and helped the Lady Monarchs snap a three-game losing streak.
The win improves the Lady Monarchs to 2-5 overall, while the Blue Devils hold on to a 4-4 overall mark.
The Lady Monarchs victory came despite Duke outshooting Old Dominion 19-11 and holding a 12-6 advantage in penalty corners. While the Blue Devils dominated the first half outshooting the Lady Monarchs 10-2, the second half saw each team firing off nine shots apiece.
In goal, junior Kelly Driscoll (West Chester, Pa.) collected eight saves totaling 21 for the weekend. Her counterpart, Caitlin Williams, made seven stops for Duke.
The Old Dominion field hockey team returns home for a two-game homestand next weekend. The Lady Monarchs host Radford on Saturday, September 22nd and then open up Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) action on Sunday, September 23rd. Both games begin at 1:00 p.m. at Foreman Field and admission is free.
