Verlander Wins 17th For Tigers

NORFOLK, VA-- Justin Verlander ('04) became thefirst Detroit Tiger pitcher since Jack Morris in1986-87 to win atleast 17 games in consecutive years. The reigning AL Rookie of the Year pitched the Tigers to a 5-1 win over Texas. Verlander is now 17-5 with a 3.47 ERA. He fanned seven with just one walk.

Brandon Carter (2b) hit .295 for independent Anderson.He scored 54 runsin 67 games. Carter also knocked in 22 runs and stole 17bases with four homeruns.

Tyler Belcher (C) hit .181 for the Marlins A league Jamestown.He had two doubles and three RBI.

Jeffrey Eure (3b) hit .209 for the Royals AA Witchitateam. He hit two homeruns with 11 RBI in 24 games.

Patrick Nichols (C) hit .200 for the Nationals A teamin Hagerstown. Nichols hit three homers with 18 RBI in 41 games.

James Burok was 0-0 for the Rockies A team in Modesto.Burok had seen strikeouts in 3.1 innings of work.

Jason Godin was 5-6 with a 3.46 ERA for the RoyalsBurlington A team. Godin fanned 60 in 96.1 innings of work.

Kevin Gunter was 0-2 for the Reds A team in Dayton. He had 32 strikeoutsin 38 innings of work and a 3.08 ERA.

Donnie Smith was 2-1 for the Cardinals A team in Palm Beach. He fanned 50 batters in 59.1 innings of work and had a 3.00 ERA.
