ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- With the game tied at halftime, No. 15/12 Michigan scored the lone goal of the second half to take a 4-3 victory over the visiting No. 9/13 Old Dominion field hockey team Friday afternoon.

The loss drops the Lady Monarchs to 1-3 overall, while the Wolverines improve to 2-3 overall.

Three different Lady Monarchs found the back of the Michigan cage including newcomer Loran Hatch (Green Lane, Pa.) who put away her first career goal.

It took less than a minute for Old Dominion to get on the scoreboard and then the Lady Monarchs proceeded to take a 3-1 lead by the game's 19th minute.

Junior Katelyn Smither (Suffolk, Va.) found the back of the Wolverine cage a mere :55 seconds into the game. Senior Shannon Mobley (Va. Beach, Va.) fired off the first shot of the game, but was blocked. On the rebound, Smither got a hold of the ball along the left side of the cage for the 1-0 Lady Monarch lead.

Michigan managed to tie the score in the 17th minute of action on a Stephanie Hoyer goal, but only 19 seconds later, Old Dominion would reclaim the lead followed by a two-goal advantage two minutes later. After the Wolverine goal, Hatch tipped CAA Player of the Week Titia Beek's (Heiloo, Holland) shot into the Michigan goal. Beek would again assist on the next Old Dominion tally as Katie Ueberroth (Stevens, Pa.) put away her first score of the season. Ueberroth's goal would be the last of the Old Dominion scoring as Michigan would strike two more times in the first half and again in the second half.

The Wolverines scored twice in the opening stanza's final 10 minutes off of penalty corner attempts. With under 10 minutes left until the half, Michigan's Ashley Lennington found her way into the ODU cage, followed two minutes later by a Lucia Belassi tally to tie the game at 3-3.

Michigan would be the only team scoring in half number two. Ten minutes into the half, the Wolverine's managed to draw out Old Dominion netminder Kelly Driscoll (West Chester, Pa.) as Vanessa Sekhon managed lift the ball up and into the goal. Old Dominion had four shots in the second half but was unable to come up with the equalizer.

The Lady Monarchs were outshot, 15-10, and outcornered, 8-4.

Paige Pickett needed only to make one save for Michigan to help preserve the win, while ODU's Driscoll made five stops in goal for the Lady Monarchs.

The Old Dominion field hockey team returns to action tomorrow, Saturday, September 8th as they take on No. 3/5 Connecticut in a neutral site contest at Phyllis Ocker Stadium on Michigan's campus.
