DURHAM, NC--Old Dominion University sophomore righthander Anthony Shawler (Chesapeake, Va.-Oscar Smith HS) was named to BASEBALL AMERICA's third team All-American squad, and PingBaseball second team All-American squad. This is his second and third All-American honor thus far as hewas a first team selection by COLLEGIATE BASEBALL Newspaper earlier this month.
The 6-3, 195-pounder was 11-2 with a 2.20 earned run average. He fanned 130batters in 114.2 innings of work with eight complete games and three shutouts.
Shawler was 6-2 with five complete games in CAA play and a 2.27 ERA. Hetossed complete game shutouts against Iona, Delaware and a one-hitter against NCAATournament participant Rutgers. Shawler tied the ODU school record with 22 straightscoreless innings earlier this year sharing the mark set in 1962 by Bobby Walton.
As a hitter, Shawler hit .305 with five homers, 35 RBI and a team best fivetriples.
The Monarchs finished the season at 35-24 and were the top seed in the CAATournament after compiling an 18-11 record. CAA Co-Players of the Year KellenKulbacki of James Madison and Greg Sexton of William and Mary joined Shawleron the squads.
