TUCSON, ARIZ--Old Dominion University sophomore righthander Anthony Shawler (Chesapeake, VA.-Oscar Smith HS) has been selected to the first team Louisville Slugger NCAA Division I All-American baseball team by COLLEGIATE BASEBALL NEWSPAPER.
Shawler, a first team All-CAA selection compiled an 11-2 overall record with a 2.20 earned run average. He fanned 130 batters in 114.6 innings of work, with eighth complete games and three shutouts, all CAA bests.
Shawler was 6-2 with five complete games in CAA play and a 2.27 ERA. Hetossed complete game shutouts against Iona, Delaware and a one-hitter against NCAA tournament bound Rutgers. Shawler tied the school record with 22 straight scorelessinnings earlier this year sharing the mark set in 1962 by Bobby Walton. Shawler is thefifth Monarch to ever earn first team Division I All-American honors and the first since Tim Hummel did it in 2000.
The Monarchs finished the season at 35-24 and took first place in the regular season of the CAA at 18-11.
Shawler is one of three CAA players selected. JMU outfielder Kellen Kulbackiearned second team All-American honors in the outfield and William and Mary outfielder Greg Sexton earned third team All-American honors. Both Sexton and Kulbacki were CAA CO-Players of the Year.
