HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - Old Dominion head coach Sue Stahl earned her fourth Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Coach of the Year honor at a the banquet Thursday night on the eve of the 2007 CAA Women's Lacrosse Championship, which is being hosted by top-seed Hofstra. Lady Monarch senior midfielders Caroline Jacobs (Gaithersburg, Md.) and Katie Veneziale (Downingtown, Pa.) along with sophomore defender Lindsey Belle (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) were named Second Team All-CAA.
In addition to Stahl, the three other major award winners were JMU senior Kylee Dardine as the Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season, Delaware freshman Nicole Flego as Rookie of the Year, and Annie Wagner of James Madison as the conference's Player of the Year.
Stahl claims her fourth CAA Coach of the Year honor and her first since receiving back-to-back awards following the 2002 and 2003 seasons. Her team enters the championship having improved on a 5-10 overall mark (2-5 in CAA) in 2006 to a 7-7 record (4-3 in CAA) in 2007. Since joining Old Dominion in 1991, she has registered over 100 career victories and captured the 1995 CAA Tournament title as well as the 2003 CAA regular season crown. Stahl sports a 120-146 career mark in 17 seasons at the helm of the Lady Monarchs women's lacrosse program.
In addition to the four major awards handed out Thursday, the CAA also announced the 2007 all-conference first, second and rookie teams.
