NORFOLK, VA -- With the help of a terrific final day of racing, the Seahawks of St. Mary's College of Maryland won the ICSA Women's National Championship presented by PENTAX and Vanguard. St. Mary's crossed the line first four times in the final six races to coast to victory at ODU's Sailing Center on the Elizabeth River. The top ranked team in the nation will take home the coveted Gerald C. Miller Trophy by finishing with just 132 points after 16 completed races while defending champion Charleston earned the New England Trophy for finishing in second place with 176 points. Finishing in third for the Ann Campbell Trophy was Stanford with 204 total points.

The Seahawks also boast the Quantum Female College Sailor of the Year, as the honor was awarded after the regatta to St. Mary's A division skipper Adrienne Patterson (Newport Beach, CA). The annual award goes to the female skipper who has compiled the best overall sailing record for the academic year.

Patterson had a terrific performance at the ICSA Women's National Championship winning four races and finishing among the top four boats in 12 of the 16 races. She won the Madeleine Trophy as the low-point skipper in A division tallying just 62 total points.

Charleston's Allie Blecher won the Judy Lawson Trophy for the low-point skipper in B division by tallying just 66 points. The Charleston team was behind just 20 points going into the 15th and 16th races, but St. Mary's ran a string of four straight wins together to separate and win the regatta.

Behind the top three of St. Mary's, Charleston, and Stanford were a tight top five in Navy with 216 points and Harvard finishing with 219. UC-Irvine finished sixth with 227 points and Boston College finished seventh with 259 points. Rounding out the top nine were Tufts with 280 points and Boston University with 288 points.

It was a battle for the final slot in the top ten, with Georgetown eventually taking the spot with 302 points, followed closely by Wisconsin (306) and Dartmouth (308). The bottom six were spread apart with Old Dominion in 13th with 361 points, William Smith in 14th with 374, Michigan in 15th with 445, South Florida in 16th with 447, Washington just behind at 17th with 458 and Texas in 18th with 471 total points.

The conditions were tricky and required extremely tactical sailing all three days. The wind died at around 2:30 Friday afternoon forcing a termination of the final three races.
