LEXINGTON, VA -- Mike Zahm's two out double in the top of the ninth plated Anthony Shawler and Gerard Hall to lift Old Dominion (32-20) to a 5-4 Victory over Virginia Military Institute (33-17) Tuesday night.
After four scoreless innings, freshman John Malbon (Virginia Beach, VA.) hit his second homerun of the season with Tyler Belcher (Bristol, VA.) aboard.
VMI came right back in the bottom of the fifth as Shane Geisslinger walked, and Chad Rice and AJ Yoder were hit with pitches to load the bases. With two outs, Eddie Van Es hit his seventh homerun, a grand slam to rightfield.
ODU loaded the bases in the sixth, but Duty worked out of the jam. In the eighth Mike Zahm led off with his 21st double of the season and then scored on a Keydet throwing error on Nick Erdman's infield hit.

A single and Gerard Hall singled with one out. Both scored on Mike Zahm's 22nd double of the season, giving ODU a 5-4 lead. Ross Fetterly picked up the win in relief and Hunter Hall got the save.
Zahm led ODU with three hits, while Belcher added two hits. Jacoby Fieldsled VMI with two hits.
The Monarchs return to CAA action Thursday night for a three-game series at William and Mary.
