ODU Rallies To Defeat Georgia State, 3-2

NORFOLK, VA--Senior catcher Tyler Belcher's (Bristol, VA.) two-out single plated fellow senior Nick Erdman (Leola, Pa.) in the eighth inning as Old Dominion (31-20/17-9) defeated Georgia State (24-28/13-14), 3-2 Sunday afternoon. The victory coupled with VCU's loss to Delaware put the Monarchs back in sole possession of first place in the CAA.

The Panthers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second as Aeden McQueary struckout, but reached on a pass ball then later scored on an ODU error. Chase Childersthen scored on Dusty Bennett's sacrifice fly.

Georgia State's Jeremy Compton held ODU scoreless until the seventh inning.Tyler Belcher led off with a double and scored on Gerard Hall's (Washington, DC.) one-out single. After a throwing error helped Hall to third, Chris Keenan's (Chesapeake, Va.) sacrifice fly tied the game.

In the eighth, Nick Erdman walked with one out. He advanced to second on awild pitch and came home on Belcher's single. ODU reliever Hunter Hall (Virginia Beach, VA. )came on in the ninth after Ryan Bergh(Reddick, FL.) walked lead-off hitter Bradley Logan. Pinchrunner Carlos Cardoza was sacrificed to second, then moved to third on a wild pitch. Hall fanned Eric Suttle to end the game with his third save of the season.

Ryan Bergh picked up his fifth win of the season and second straight. He fannedsix with three walks and five hits allowed. Belcher led ODU with three hits, while freshmen Jake McAloose(Virginia Beach, VA.) and Gerard Hall each had two hits. ODU travels to Lexington, VA to play VMI Tuesday night at 6 p.m.
