ODU Edges Georgia State, 3-2 on Gerard Hall's Ninth Inning Hit

NORFOLK, VA--Freshman shortstop Gerard Hall singled home Anthony Shawler from second base with two outs in the bottom of the ninth as Old Dominion(30-19/16-8) defeated Georgia State (23-27/12-13), 3-2 Friday evening. The gamestarted at 7:30 because of a rainstorm. Saturday's game time has been changed and will start at 4 p.m. because of the threat of rain.

In the bottom of the ninth, Anthony Shawler was hit with a pitch by AdamBowling to lead off the frame. Tyler Belcher sacrificed him to second and with twoouts Hall singled to left centerfield for the game winner.

The Panthers took a 1-0 lead when Kenny Camp's sacrifice fly plated ChaseChilders in the fourth inning. The Monarchs tied the game in the bottom of the sixthas David Burns doubled with two outs and scored on Nick Erdman's double.

Georgia State regained the lead in the eighth, as Luke Gordon scoredwith the help of two Monarch errors. In the bottom of the eighth, ODU tied it again when Chris Keenanscored on a Panther throwing error during a double play attempt.

Ross Fetterly came on in the ninth and got the Monarchs out of a firstand third, one out jam, and picked up the win.

Eric Suttle led Georgia State with three hits, while Nick Erdman led ODU with two hits.The victory coupled with VCU's 6-5 win over Delaware keeps both teams tiedatop the CAA at 16-8.
