ODU Women's Sailing Finishes 13th at Dellenbaugh Women's Regatta

April 16, 2007

PROVIDENCE, RI -- The entire field at the Dellenbaugh Women's Regatta was forced to endure complicated conditions on day two of racing at Brown University that included heavy rain. The Lady Monarchs finished 13th overall after 14 races were completed with a team-high second place finish in the final race of the weekend.

ODU, ranked 11th in the nation by Sailing World, raced its usual team this weekend with Cara DiSanti and Katrina Williams skippering the two boats. Crew for DiSanti was Alissa Ayres and Jane Bleakney while Elyssa Albert teamed with Williams in B division.

In A division, DiSanti and Bleakney finished a weekend-best fourth place in the 11th race. In B division, Williams and Albert finished second in the final race of the weekend. The B division boat finished in the top ten in eight of the 14 races.

REGATTA HIGHLIGHTS:

Saturday - A nice but cool day with N/NW winds at 6-18 knots. Gold Cup, Triangle/Windward, and W/L courses with gates. Two protests heard resulting in one DSQ. One file for redress that was unsuccessful. One protest pending with Salve Regina A-division. Thanks to our judges Vanessa Lipchitz (Brown '04), Emma Lichtenstein (Brown '03), and Sally Walkerman (Brown '05). Thanks as well to Chase Hogoboom (Brown '03) for helping with Race Committee. A dismal forecast for tomorrow but we'll try for a 10am first race.

Sunday - Rain, heavy at times and cold. Nice breeze from the East at 8-16 knots with a few higher puffs. All Gold Cup courses. Racing concluded at 3pm and the competitors did a great job braving the elements. One protest was disallowed and Salve Regina A and BU B-division each withdrew from a race for hitting a mark. Thanks to our day two judges Avram Robbins (Brown '05) and Sally Walkerman (Brown '05), and to Dobbs Hogoboom (Brown 08) for helping with RC. Special thanks to Vanessa Lipschitz (Brown '04) for helping as well and scoring.
