Shawler Leads ODU Over Towson, 16-3

NORFOLK, VA--Sophomore righthander Anthony Shawler (Chesapeake, VA.) knocked in five runs and pitched seven innings allowing only four hits and one run asOld Dominion (25-15/12-5) defeated Towson (14-19/6-8), 16-3 in a CAA contest Saturday afternoon at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.

Shawler fanned nine batters with no walks in picking up his CAA leading eighth win of the season against no losses. Shawler was a perfect three-for-three with fiveRBI. He plated Mike Zahm (Omaha, NE.) in the first on a sacrifice fly, singled in David Burns (Jacksonville, Fl.) and Zahm in the ODU six-run second, and doubled in Zahm and Chris Keenan (Chesapeake, VA.) in the fifth inning.

ODU pounded out 16 hits on the day as David Burns led with four hits, Chris Keenan had three, and Nick Erdman with two. Mike Zahm scored four times and walkedThree times. Nick Erdman scored three times, while Keenan knocked in three runs.

Towson scored in the fifth when Nick Natoli's sacrifice fly scored Jason Stiflerwho reached on a double. In the eighth, Aaron Gabrielian singled home Steve Rice andMatt Collins singled in J.P. Debrowski.

Shawler is now 8-0 with a 2.78 ERA. He is hitting .327 on the season.Zahm leads OD with a .409 batting average and leads the CAA with 51RBI and 18 doubles, while Davis Burns is second with 50 RBI.
