NORFOLK, VA -- The Bermuda Sailing Association teamed up with OMEGA to honor national sailors of the year and Old Dominion freshman Katrina Williams was named top female. Williams (Pembroke, Bermuda) competed for a single-handed national title in the fall, just her first semester as a Monarch sailor.
Williams was named the 2006 OMEGA Female Sailor of the Year Award after an extremely successful year on the water. Katrina was born and raised in Bermuda.
In August she went to Kingston, Ontario and competed in the 2006 CORK Regatta. She placed 15th among a fleet of 167 international boatssailing the Laser Radial. This past fall, as a freshman, she qualified for the ICSA College Single-Handed Championships, something rarely done by a first year college sailor. She then went on to compete in the championships and placed 6th out of a very competitive 18 boats from around the USA.
