RADIO: For the 16th-straight season ESPN Radio (1310 am - Norfolk, Va.) will be broadcasting all the Lady Monarch contests. Thirteen-time sportscaster of the Year Tony Mercurio will call all the action for the 2007 CAA Women's Basketball Tournament.

LADY MONARCH MOMENTS:
The 15-time defending Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Old Dominion women's basketball begins its quest for its 16th cosecutive title on March 9th in the semifinals against the winner of the No. 8 Georgia State/No. 9 Drexel first round match-up. Game time is noon.
Since joining the CAA in the 1991-92 season, Old Dominion has captured the league tournament title each season and owns a 44-0 record in CAA Tournament action.
The Lady Monarchs claimed the top seed at the upcoming CAA Women's Basketball Tournament with a 80-70 victory last Thursday night at GSU Arena. It is the 13th regular season title for the Lady Monarchs since joining the league 16 years ago in the 1991-92 season.
Old Dominion has served as the CAA Tournament's top seed in 13 of its 16 years in the league.
The Lady Monarchs enter tournament action with a 21-8 overall mark having achieved their 27th 20+ win season, including the last 16 consecutive seasons. Additionally, Old Dominion have won their last nine straight contests since its lone conference setback at James Madison on February 1st.
Old Dominion took the top spot in the CAA standings for the first time this season after a 62-57 win over #22/25 James Madison on Sunday, February 25th. The victory was also the Lady Monarchs' first victory over a ranked opponent in five attempts. The victory also upped ODU's overall record at the Constant Center to 65-12 and 13-2 for the 2006-07 season as they played in their final regular season home game.
Old Dominion junior T.J. Jordan became the 25th Lady Monarch to reach 1,000 career points as the Lady Monarch women's basketball team defeated George Mason, 80-52, on February 22nd at the Ted Constant Convocation Center. Jordan finished the night with 15 points and connected on a three-pointer, her third of final of the night, at the 4:39 mark to reach the 1,000 point mark.
The ODU women's basketball senior class - Tish Lyons, Sherida Triggs, Shantel Wilson - have earned a 90-33 overall mark and 49-5 CAA record in their four seasons with the program. Together they have earned three CAA rings and advanced to three NCAA Tournament games.
COLONIAL DOMINANCE: Old Dominion has captured 15-straight Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) titles since joining the league from the Sun Belt Conference during the 1991-92 season. The Lady Monarchs are in the NCAA record books for capturing the most consecutive conference championships. In league play, Old Dominion holds a 288-16 overall record, which includes eights seasons of undefeated play. The Lady Monarchs hold a 152-2 record at home and a 136-14 road record. Only two CAA losses have occurred on Old Dominion's homecourt. The first was back at the ODU Fieldhouse, the former Lady Monarch homecourt from 1969-2002, against Richmond, now of the Atlantic-10, with a 70-74 defeat on February 19, 1992 and the second versus Delaware with a 70-73 setback on January 9, 2005. Five schools in the league have yet to beat the Lady Monarchs - Georgia State (4-0), George Mason (41-0), Northeastern (3-0), UNC-Wilmington (34-0), and Towson (10-0).

500 AND COUNTING: With the 77-38 win over Chicago State on December 9th, Old Dominion head coach Wendy Larry became the 30th all-time Division I coach and 23rd active Division I coach to reach the 500-victory milestone. In 23 years as a head coach, she has compiled a 518-190 mark. Now in her 20th season at the helm of the Old Dominion program, Larry holds a 469-159 mark at her alma mater. Coach Larry just recently captured her 450th victory as the head coach at her alma mater with a 57-46 win over Delaware State on November 25.
FROM DOWNTOWN: Junior guard T.J. Jordan is fourth in the country in three-point field goals made with 3.1 per game and is 72nd in three-point field goal percentage at .347. She has 1,036 career points which puts 24th on the all-time scoring list She has 90 three-point field goals this season and 253 for her career. Her 253 attempts are the most in school history surpassing Aubrey Eblin (1997/98- 250). Eblin still holds the school record in three-pointers made with 97 during 1997-98.

DISH IT TO ME: Sophomore Jazzmin Walters continues to grow in her role as the Lady Monarchs starting point guard. The second year Lady Monarch dished out eight assists, tying both her career and season-high while committing only one turnover against Virginia Commonwealth on January 25th. With four dishes against Hofstra on February 4th, Walters cracked the top 10 sophomore assists leaders list. She is currently in seventh place with 94 assists in her second year in the ODU uniform surpassing current assistant coach Marie Christian and Denna Vander Plas.

DOUBLE YOUR PLEASURE: Three Lady Monarchs have double-doubles under their belt. Redshirt sophomore Tiffany Green became the first Lady Monarch to perform a double-double this season with a 17-point, 12-rebound effort against Chicago State on Dec. 9th. She followed with her second double-double in the following game with 11 points and 10 rebounds on Dec. 17 at Charlotte. She currently has three under her belt as she poured in 15 points and hauled in 11 boards on February 22nd in the second meeting with George Mason. Junior Tay Ransburg 13 points and 12 rebounds on Jan. 11 against Georgia State for her first double point and rebounding effort as a Lady Monarch. Senior Sherida Triggs had 14 points and 10 boards in the series finale with VCU on Jan. 25th for her first double of the year and 10th of her career. She collected her second double-double effort with12 points and 11 rebounds in a victory over Delaware on February 11th. That win moved Old Dominion into second place in the league standings. Triggs closed out the year just one board short in each of the final two regular season games from notching another double-double. Triggs finished last Thursday's game against Georgia State with 14 points and nine boards, while in the regular season finale at UNC-Wilmington, the senior forward poured in a season-high 20 points and collected nine rebounds.
THE STARTING FIVE: With the Lady Monarch roster as deep as it is in recent memory, its hard to pick just which Lady Monarch will get the starting nod. Through twenty-nine games, 10 different starting combos have been used with Sherida Triggs being the only Lady Monarch to have started every single game. The line-up of Triggs, Tay Ransburg, Shahida Williams, T.J. Jordan, and Jazzmin Walters have been used the most going 10-2 with wins over Rutgers, VCU, Drexel, Georgia State, Hofstra, George Mason, and William & Mary. For the last five games, head coach Wendy Larry has used the starting five of Sherida Triggs, Tish Lyons, Tiffany Green, Shantel Wilson, and T.J. Jordan in four of the last five games. That starting combo has gone 4-0 with wins over No. 22/25 James Madison, Towson and Georgia State.
THE BATTLE FOR NO. 1: In the battle for first place in the CAA standings, the Old Dominion women's basketball came out on top with a 62-57 victory over No. 25/22 James Madison on February 25th as the Lady Monarchs took the top spot in the CAA standings for the first time this season. The victory was also the Lady Monarchs' first victory over a ranked opponent in five attempts. The victory also upped ODU's overall record at the Constant Center to 65-12 and 13-2 for the 2006-07 season as they played in their final regular season home game. The game remained close until the final seconds of the contest with clutch free throw shooting coming through for the Lady Monarchs. Leading by just one, 56-55, with 1:18 remaining, Old Dominion would go 6-of-8 from the charity stripe while allowing James Madison to reach the hoop just once. Wilson, who missed two free throws during a critical stretch in the final moments of the William & Mary game the previous week in Williamsburg, remained calm, cool, and collected as she sunk all four attempts in the final moments. Junior Shahida Williams, who has also struggled from the line, hit 1-of-2 with :41 on the clock putting the game out of reach for the Dukes at 61-57.
PHEW: The Tribe of the College of William & Mary were looking for their first win over the Lady Monarchs since 1976, but sophomore Tiffany Green would not allow it back on February 18th. She iced two free throws with 11 seconds left in the game to give the Lady Monarchs not only it first lead, but the lead for good, with 11 seconds remaining in the game. Green entered the game shooting just 48.4 percent from the charity stripe, but made both attempts for a 54-52 Old Dominion lead.
TAMING THE TIGERS: Old Dominion had its largest victory of the season in an 82-42 win over Towson on February 15th. It was the fifth time the Lady Monarchs reached the 80+ point mark this season. Old Dominion shot a blistering 60.4 percent (32-of-53) against the Tigers, not only a season-high, but the Lady Monarchs' best shooting percentage since hitting 61.1 percent (33-of-54) against Hofstra in the quarterfinals of the CAA Tournament back on March 13, 2003.
CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE SOUL: The stomach bug has managed to get a hold of three members of the Old Dominion women's basketball team this season. Sophomore Jazzmin Walters missed the February 8th game against Northeastern. With Walters' sickness, head coach Wendy Larry used a new line-up for the first time in 12 games. Larry used the line-up of Shahida Williams, Sherida Triggs, Tiffany Green, Tish Lyons, and T.J. Jordan which was last used in a Dec. 17th loss to Charlotte. The sickness then traveled to T.J. Jordan for following game, a February 11th showdown with Delaware. Jordan started at the point and posted 11 points and two assists despite feeling under the weather. Junior Tamara Ransburg was the latest and hopefully last victim of the stomach sickness on February 22nd. Despite her illness, Ransburg had six points, nine rebounds, and went 4-of-4 from the line against George Mason.
DOWNING DELAWARE: Old Dominion defeated Delaware on February 11th to move into second place in the CAA standings. Delaware, who entered the game winners in 10 of their last 11, had a four-game win streak snapped.. The 47 points were the fewest the Blue Hens have scored all season and the fewest since netting only 41 in a 41-55 setback at UNC-Wilmington back on January 6th. Additionally it was Delaware's largest loss since a 27-point setback at James Madison, 57-84, back on February 1, 2004. The Fightin' Blue Hens shot a season-low 24.6 percent from the field (14-of-57), went just 2-for-13 from the three-point line. Additionally, Old Dominion outscored the Delaware bench, 21-4.
LOOKING AT THE BENCH: Since beginning CAA action on January 4th, the Lady Monarch bench as been producing over twice the amount as the opponent bench. Through the end of the regular season's conference games, ODU's bench has collected 470 points as compared to their opponent's 213. Old Dominion has held opponents' benches to single digit scoring in eight games including outscoring Hofstra's reservers 19-1 in the second meeting and William & Mary's non-starters, 31-2 in the first game.
SWISH: It looked like the Lady Monarchs had their best free throw performance of the year at Northeastern on February 8th as they went 14-of-16 to finish the night at a 87.5 percent clip. Senior Sherida Triggs led the way going 4-of-4 from the charity stripe as one of five Lady Monarchs to go perfect from the line. However, that stat didn't last very long as the Lady Monarchs reset it the following game in a Feb. 11th victory over Delaware. The Lady Monarchs went 11-of-12 from the charity stripe to shoot a season-high 91.7 percent. Both Triggs and sophomore Tiffany Green went a perfect 4-of-4. Triggs had a span of 10 free throws in contests at Hofstra, Northeastern, and at home against Delaware.
CLUTCH: Junior Megan Pym and senior Sherida Triggs hit a crucial jumpers in the closing minute to help the seal a 69-62 victory at Hofstra back on February 4th. The Lady Monarchs led by as much as 13 in the second half and were leading 63-52 with 5:37 left in the game. The Pride followed by going on an 8-0 run to pull within three with a mere 1:28 left in the game. Pym's pull up jumper at the free throw line put Old Dominion up by five, but managed a bucket on their turn down the court to once again cut the ODU lead to three with 52 seconds remaining. On the next possession, Triggs got underneath the basket to capture a miss from Jazz Walters and in the midst of Hofstra defenders manage to put the ball up and over the rim to seal the win with 24 seconds left.
FIRST TEAM TARGETS: The Old Dominion defense kept two members of the First Team All-CAA in check in first meetings with two league members. The Lady Monarchs held Hofstra's Vanessa Gidden to one point on 0-of-7 shooting from the floor in the first meeting with the Pride and CAA Preseason Player of the Year Kyra Kaylor to just two points on 1-of-11 shooting. Coming off a career-high equaling 30 point night in a win at Georgia State, Kaylor was held scoreless through the first half and didn't notch her first points until the 15:20 mark of the second half. Kaylor entered the game averaging 14.6 points per game and was ninth in the league in scoring.
CRASH: Old Dominion hauled in a season-high 57 rebounds in a 63-47 win over William & Mary back on January 28th in the first meeting between the two teams. Sophomore Tiffany Green hauled in 15 rebounds to tie her career mark.
CAA LOSES: Losses aren't very common for the Lady Monarchs, but they do happen. The 50-79 loss to James Madison is just one of 16 losses ODU has suffered since joining the CAA back in the 1991-92 season. Of those 16 losses, six have come at the hands of James Madison. Old Dominion has suffered at least one CAA loss in 11 of 16 seasons in the league. There are still five opponents in the CAA though that have not defeated the Lady Monarchs. The 29-point loss to the Dukes however was the largest CAA loss for the Lady Monarchs. Its previous largest margin of defeat in conference action was a 17-point erring a 57-71 loss at East Carolina on February 22, 1992.
TALE OF THE TURNOVER: Old Dominion is working on cutting down on its turnovers, but in the season series against Drexel, the Lady Monarchs forced the turnovers. The Dragons committed 30 miscues leading to 26 Lady Monarch points in the 70-45 first meeting in Norfolk and then committed another 30 against ODU in the 83-51 meeting in Philadelphia resulting in 46 Lady Monarch points. The 30 turnovers are the most committed by a Lady Monarch opponent this season. ODU followed the first Dragon meeting by collecting 31 points off of 25 Georgia State miscues the following game. The Lady Monarchs closed the season committing their fewest turnovers - just seven in the regular season finale at UNC-Wilmington.
HEAR ME ROAR: Senior Tish Lyons started the year's first eight games, but for the next 13 games came off the bench. As a starter she only averaged 7.3 points and 2.8 rebounds a game but from coming off the bench beginning with the contest at Middle Tennessee State, Lyons averaged 9.4 points and 2.8 rebounds per game. Against Rutgers and in the CAA opener at Virginia Commonwealth, she poured in a then season-high 14 points and also dished out a career-high six assists against the Rams. Lyons returned to the starting five eightgames ago and has averaged 8.5 points and 3.5 boards. Lyons poured in a season-high 19 points in a 20-point victory over Towson back on February 15th.
RANK 'EM UP: Old Dominion has seen action against four Top 25 teams and six teams receiving votes this season. Old Dominion got its first win over one of those teams with a 72-55 win over Rutgers and followed with a 74-59 victory over CAA rival Hofstra. The Lady Monarchs got their first ranked win of the year against #22/25 James Madison on February 25th in a 62-57 victory. Other wins over teams in the "receiving votes" category include a 63-47 win Delaware on Feb. 11 that put ODU into second place in the CAA. Ranked teams on the schedule have included Tennessee, Duke, Kentucky and James Madison. ODU fell to the #21/24 Wildcat squad 55-69 in their home opener back on November 18th, fell 40-89 to #5 Duke on their home court on November 30th, and was defeated by #5 Tennessee 59-75, although the game was tied with just 1:31 left in the first half. ODU was also edged by #25 JMU, 79-50. Virginia, Penn State, and Middle Tennessee have also been seen in the "receiving votes" categories in both polls. ODU fell 72-92 at Virginia in the season opener, lost at Penn State, 77-80, despite overcoming a 20-point second half deficit, and was edged out 71-86 by Middle Tennessee.
JUST LIKE MIKE: Junior guard T.J. Jordan has led the team in scoring in all but 12 games this season - at Duke, at Middle Tennessee, vs. Tennessee, vs. Rutgers, James Madison - twice, William & Mary -twice, vs. Georgia State, Delaware, Towson, and UNC-Wilmington. At Charlotte, Jordan collected her first career double-double with 16-points and a career-high 10 rebounds.

ATTENDANCE AT THE TED: 7,108 people came through the turnstiles at the Ted Constant Convocation Center on the afternoon of December 22nd against Tennessee making the game the third highest attended women's basketball game since the arena opened in 2002.

ONE FOR THE ROAD: After beginning the season 0-5 away from the friendly confines of the Ted Constant Convocation Center, the Lady Monarchs earned its first road win with an 81-70 victory over Virginia Commonwealth at the Siegel Center in Richmond on January 4th. The Lady Monarchs have gone 8-6 on the with the lone conference setback at James Madison. Since its February 1st loss in Harrisonburg, Old Dominion has won five straight away from home.
HALFTIME HIGHS & LOWS: Old Dominion held a 34-16 first half advantage against Georgia State in the first meeting marking the lowest scoring output by a Lady Monarch opponent this season. The 18-point ODU halftime lead also tied the Lady Monarchs largest halftime lead this year. Old Dominion also held an 18-point, 35-17 advantage over Chicago State in head coach Wendy Larry's 500th career victory over Chicago State back on December 9th. Additionally, the Lady Panthers tied its season low for scoring in a half with its 16 points.
CAA PLAYERS OF THE WEEK :
T.J Jordan:
01/08/07: Jordan averaged 21.5 points per game last week as she led the Lady Monarchs to their first two conference victories of the season. The third year Lady Monarch poured in a season-high 25 points against Virginia Commonwealth in ODU's CAA opener last Thursday. It was the fourth time this season she has scored 20 or more points in a game. She also shot a blistering 56.3 percent (9-of-16) from the floor, including a career-tying seven three-pointers. She was just two treys shy of tying the school record. Jordan followed with a game-high 18 points in the win over Drexel last Sunday in ODU's first home CAA win of the 2006-07 season. Against the Dragons she shot a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line, the fifth time Jordan has gone perfect from the charity stripe.
02/12/07: Junior guard T.J. Jordan set new records in school and CAA history as she helped the Lady Monarchs to victories over Northeastern and Delaware last week averaging 22.5 points per game. At Northeastern, Jordan ignited for 10 three-pointers setting new marks in both theODU and CAA record books in categories and finished with a career-high 34 points. It was the first time since March 11, 2005 when CAA Tournament MVP Shareese Grant exploded for 35 points that a Lady Monarch reached the 30 or more point mark. In the following game, Jordan battled a stomach bug to become one of four players in double digits in a victory over Delaware moving the Lady Monarchs into second place in the league race. Jordan notched 11 points.
Sherida Triggs:
03/05/07: Old Dominion senior forward Sherida Triggs averaged 17.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, and shot 60 percent from the field in a week which saw the Lady Monarchs capture the regular season title and the top seed at the CA A Women's Basketball Tournament. In a 80-70 win over Georgia State, Triggs poured in a team-high 14 points and narrowly missed a double-double with nine rebounds. Additionally the fourth year Lady Monarch went a perfect 4-of-4 from the line. She followed with a season-high 20 points in a 79-56 victory at UNC-Wilmington. Once again Triggs narrowly missed a double-double with by hauling in nine boards. Triggs is averaged a team second-best 9.7 points per game and is tied for a team-high 6.0 rebounds per game.
HOW LOW CAN YOU GO?:The 38 points scored by Chicago State were the fewest points collected by an ODU opponent since the Lady Monarchs' 85-33 win over William & Mary on February 26, 2006.
