NORFOLK, VA -- The Old Dominion men's soccer team announced the signing of three recruits: Ben Medina, Adam Roscioli, and Harry Gillespie. Medina and Gillespie, both midfielders, hail from out of state; Medina from from Denver, Colorado, and Gillespie, from Jensen Beach, Florida. Roscioli, a defender, won't travel as far, as he played his high school ball at Jefferson Forest High School in Forest, Virginia. The 2006 men's soccer team advanced farther in the NCAA Tournament than ever before and will look for their recruits to continue that success.
Ben Medina, a 5-6, 140 lb. senior at Chatfield High School, will add depth to the midfield at Old Dominion. He was a part of the 2003 Olympic Development Program (ODP) State Team and Region IV pool. A champion throughout high school, Medina was a part of the 2003, 2004, and 2005 State Cup Championship team as well as the 2004 Disney Showcase Championship team and the 2005 US Club Region Championship team.
Harry Gillespie, a 5-9, 140 lb. senior at Jensen Beach High School, will play in the midfield for the Monarchs. His 2005-06 high school team went an undefeated 22-0-2 to win Florida's 4A State Championship en route to a 9th in the nation ranking. He earned county Rookie of the Year honors in 2003 and in 2004-05 he was named was named to the Treasure Lake Conference All-Area Team. This season he scored 12 goals and had 18 assists as his team went 24-3-1.
Adam Roscioli, the Virginia native, stands at 6-0, 175 lbs and will play in the defense for ODU. Adam was a Region I ODP player and was named to the Super-Y ODP National Team. As a sophomore and junior, he was named to the VHSL 2A First Team All-Regional team and was Second Team All-State. As a junior, he was selected to be the All-Timesland Player of the Year after helping lead his team to the State Semi-finals.
The three signees will try to help Old Dominion back into the NCAA Tournament for the sixth consecutive year. The Monarchs are coming off a season in which they had more success in the Tournament than ever before. The team reached the Round of 16 before being knocked off in a tight 2-1 defeat by eventual national champions UC-Santa Barbara.
