BOSTON, Mass. -- Junior guard T.J. Jordan (Portsmouth, Va.) exploded for a career-high 34 points and set new records for three-pointers made and attempted in a game as the Old Dominion women's basketball team defeated Northeastern, 89-75, in its first ever appearance at Solomon Court. Jordan went 10-of-22 from downtown replacing Aubrey Eblin's former record of 9-of-16 against UNC-Wilmington on Feb. 17, 1998.
The win improves the Lady Monarchs to 14-8 overall and 10-1 in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). Northeastern meanwhile fell to 3-20 overall and 2-10 in league play.
The 89 points scored by Old Dominion were the most netted this season by the team. Jordan was one of three Lady Monarchs in double figures. Joining Jordan were sophomore Tiffany Green (Chesapeake, Va.) with 15 and junior Shahida Williams (Newark, N.J.) with 11.
Green and senior Sherida Triggs (Norcross, Ga.) grabbed a team-high seven boards as the Lady Monarch outrebounded the Huskies 49-24.
Northeastern was led by Shaleyse Smallwood with 21 points and 11 assists. She was one of four in double figures for the Huskies. Lucia Pablos poured in 17 points, followed by Ashlee Feldmen with 16, and Stefanie Hodell with 12.
The first half endured seven ties before freshman Jessica Canaday (Williamsburg, Va.) gave the lead to the Lady Monarchs for good by hitting two free throws at the 4:42 mark. Old Dominion held a 41-38 advantage at the half.
Northeastern was able to get as close as two in the second half, but after a Pablos jumper at the 17:53 mark brought the score to 46-44, Old Dominion proceeded to outscore the Huskies, 25-7, to take a 20-point lead. The Lady Monarchs would go on to lead by as many as 22.
The Lady Monarchs return to action on Sunday, February 11th as they take on Delaware in a game to be televised by CN8 and WSKY-4 in the Hampton Roads Area. All fans are encouraged to wear pink to "PINK OUT" the Ted Constant Convocation Center for the annual "Hoops for a Cure" game.
