NORFOLK, Va. -- Old Dominion junior T.J. Jordan (Portsmouth, Va.) became the 25th Lady Monarch to reach 1,000 career points as the Lady Monarch women's basketball team defeated George Mason, 80-52, Thursday evening at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.
The game was never in doubt as Old Dominion opened the game on an 8-0 run. The Lady Monarchs held a 41-19 lead at the half and held as much as a 29-point lead midway through the second half.
Jordan finished the night with 15 points and connected on a three-pointer, her third of final of the night, at the 4:39 mark to reach the 1,000 point mark. Sophomore Tiffany Green (Chesapeake, Va.) also concluded the night with 15 points and captured her team-leading third double-double of the season as she hauled in 11 boards.
Junior Megan Pym (Newfield, N.Y.) came off the bench to record a career-high five-steal in a season-high 21 minutes of action.
George Mason had three members of its squad in double figures. Lateisha Wade put up 15 points, while both Nikkia Slade and Casey Quigley netted 11 from off the bench.
The Lady Monarchs outrebounded the Patriots, 46-35, with Green leading the way with her 11 rebounds. Senior Sherida Triggs also grabbed nine in the victory for Old Dominion.
The win improves Old Dominion to 18-8 overall and 14-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). With James Madison's 77-67 loss to Delaware in Newark, the scene is set for Sunday's showdown as both the Dukes and Lady Monarchs are jockeying for position as the conference's top seed at the 2007 CAA Tournament in two weeks. James Madison will enter the game with a 24-3 overall mark and 15-1 conference record.
Sunday's game against No. 22/25 James Madison will be televised on CN-8 and WSKY-4 (Hampton Roads). Tip-off is at noon.
Note: Following the match-up with the Dukes, the three members of the Lady Monarch senior class - Tish Lyons, Sherida Triggs, and Shantel Wilson - will be honored. At halftime, Old Dominion will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the 1997 national runner-up squad.
