Keenan and Malbon Lead ODU Over Delaware State, 25-2

NORFOLK, VA--Junior secondbaseman Chris Keenan (Chesapeake, Va.)knocked in six runs on three extra base hits and red-shirt freshman John Malbon (Virginia Beach, Va.) hit his first career homerun, a grand slam to lead Old Dominion (4-0) to a 25-2 non conference win over Delaware State (0-4) Wednesday afternoon.

Keenan doubled home Brooks Sinnen (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Jake McAloose (Virginia Beach, Va.) in the second inning, he then tripled home HallSinnen and McAloose in the sixth and doubled in the seventh. His groundout in the eighth plated Hall. Malbon came on in the inning and doubled. In the ODU ten-run ninth,Malbon slammed his first collegiate homerun with the bases loaded and no outs. Mike Zahm (Omaha, NE.) had four hits with four runs scored, while freshman Jake McAloose(Virginia Beach, VA.) had three hits and three runs scored.

Joe Velleggia (Baltimore, MD.), David Burns (Jacksonville, FL.), Anthony Shawler (Chesapeake, Va.) , Brooks Sinnen (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Gerard Hall (Washington, DC.) each had two hits on the day.

ODU pitchers scatted seven hits and fanned 11 batters. Starter Dexter Carter(Murfreesboro, NC.) fanned six in the first four innings. The 25 runs is the sixth most in school history, and the 24 hits ties for seventh in school history.

Delaware State scored two runs in the first inning as Jim Johnson was hit by a pitch and Ryne Scheiwee walked. Johnson scored on Brandon Gravely's fielders choiceGroundout and Scheiwee scored on a wild pitch.

ODU returns to action at the IMC.Com Baseball Invitational in Myrtle Beach, SC.This weekend. ODU will play Virginia Friday at 11 a.m., host Coastal Carolina Saturday at 12 noon and the University of Pittsburgh on Sunday at 11 a.m.
