BOSTON (AP) - Valdas Vasylius scored 27 points and keyed a first-half surge as Old Dominion defeated Northeastern 73-67 on Wednesday night.

Vasylius hit 9 of 11 field goals while making 8 of 9 free-throws. The Monarchs (9-4, 2-0 Colonial Athletic Association) went on an 18-3 run in the opening half led by 11 points from Vasylius to turn a 19-16 deficit into a 34-22 lead they would never relinquish.

The Huskies (3-10, 1-1 CAA) scored the last 7 points of the first half to cut Old Dominion's lead to 34-29 at the break.

Both teams had periods of dominance in the second half but Northeastern would never get closer than 2 points with just over seven minutes left.

The Monarchs made 3 of their final 4 free-throws to ice the victory.

Brandon Johnson and Brian Henderson had 13 points each for Old Dominion, and Johnson had 10 rebounds.Johnson's ten boards is an individual record and his first double-double of his career.

The 27 points by Vasylius was his second highest career single game total.He scored 29 against Towson in 2005. Vasylius was a perfect 6-6 from thefloor in the first half with 17 points.

ODU dominated the boards, 41-26 as both Brandon Johnson and ArnaudDahi hauled in double figure rebounds.

Bobby Kelly led the Huskies with 18 points while Bennet Davis and Matt Janning added 15 apiece.

The loss for Northeastern snapped the Huskies' 11-game home winning streak that dated back to Jan. 5, 2006.

ODU returns to play on Saturday, Jan. 6 at home against George Mason.Game time is 2 p.m. in the Constant Convocation Center.
